Mac users! Desktop or Laptop?

Hey all, I need some advice on a future purchase. I know a previous thread was started about "desktop vs. laptop," but I am specifically focussing on Mac's. Going into my second year of college, majoring in graphic design, so I'll be working with programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark Express. Basically, which is ultimately the better machine? I would love to get an Ibook or Powerbook, but I'm afraid that it may not perform as well as a desktop. Any advice is greatly appreciated. (And please don't make this another "Mac vs. PC" thread.)

The powerbook and the G5 are standard in GD.
Stay away from the Ibook and look more to the powerbook 15" or 17" in my opinion as a designer.

I have a powerbook and love it, but the power of a dual G% with lots of RAM... If you are going to be doing design stuff, I'd get a dual G5 and put a shitload of RAM in it. Don't forget that you'll be using it for years.

Thanks for the advice! I'll be heading over to the Mac store to test out the machines. I just hope I don't wet myself.

If money is a issue the new G4 iBooks are VERY comperable to the TiBooks and are much much cheaper.

You will. The Dually G5's are just that nice.

The Powerbook. It's mobile and the power of running PS, other graphics apps is comparable to the desktops.

you're only in your second year, so i'd recommend a desktop as you probably wont need to move that often. after college a laptop becomes much more useful i've found. and no matter which you end up picking, get all the ram you can get. it'll be worth it.
