Broken keys and I don't like Dell
I have an Inspiron 4100 (Dell laptop) about 2 years old now. I recently managed to break 2 keys off the keyboard ad I was catching the computer as it fell off a desk.
The keys are attached to the base by these little white scissor 'x' hinges. On each of two keys, one tiny tab that holds the x onto the base has broken off. Well, Dell tells me they don't stock individual parts for keyboards, and I'll have to purchase an entire new keyboard. Because of these little white plastic things, which could be sent via regular mail and are very easily customer serviceable- you even have to take keys off to change the keyboard! This is the latest of many problems I've had with the company, and even though the price was right, I look at this laptop with regret. Any suggestions where I can find replacement 'hinges' that will work on my laptop. The guys where I regularly shop for my desktop needs tried to steal them off a toshiba satilite, but they didn't fit. |
Try getting a broken Dell laptop from ebay and taking the keyboard off of it.

Do what Tritium said....that is the best way to get a keyboard without paying full price for a piece of junk anyways.

Call around to some local computer shops and see if they have any broken dell laptops...
