Still fighting it.

Windows XP problem
I just tried to upgrade my puter from Windows 2000 professional to XP professional. I thought it was all going smoothly, I'd got my ADSL installed and had just got it conecting happily when a box I couldn't close suddenly popped up after maybe a minute saying 'this system is shutting down'.
It said something about NTAUTHORITY\SYSTEM and in a little box underneath it said a 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC) had terminated unexpectedly'. I think it's just a problem related to my internet connection because I'd been faffing about with it for ages before I got the thing online and it didn't do that. Every time it restarts and I connect to the internet, bam there it is. Can anyone help me figure this out? |

Try updating your NIC drivers and also try uninstalling and reinstalling your TCP/IP. If all else fails just back up your stuff and do a clean install from scratch. Best way to get rid of any junk in the system that may be causing it aswell.

Yep, you found your problem.
It was a big issue a while back, easiest solution once you've got your system patched up is to simply Firewall it. I dont run a virus scanner but maybe once every 2 months, Firewalls stop most everything for computer infiltration. MSBlast , etc.. that was a fun time.
