Unexpected Tweak UI result.
Okay,
Win XP pro, all current updates, service packs. I was messing with Tweak UI, stop groaning, I'm good enough to do that. The odd thing is, when I reduced the slider for Thumbnail Image quality, and clicked accept, all of my folder icons, and icons changed to flat 2-D win 3.1 looking things. Even my IE "e"on the quickstart changed to a less shaded version. All the cute little site icons to the left of my IE favorites dissappeared. They're all little blue "e's" now. What the heck? I moved the slider all the way to it's highest setting (after a re-boot); when I accept it, there is a screen change, where everything glitches for a moment while changes are made, but everything remains the same. I even tried to change the icon of my drive D icon to a RAM icon; it changes all right. But, when I change back to the correct icon, which is displayed correctly in the mess o'icons to chose from, that is NOT the icon I get when I select it. Instead of the 3-D icon, I get the 2-D. I don't know what to do at this point. Thanks. |
There is an icon repair tool in TweakUI, have you tried that?
You might also try download Iconpackager or something like that and using it to reset the icons back to default. |
u know that TweakUI isnt supposed to be on XP right?
I know that too, but I love the damn thing so much that I have it too. |

yeah, there's a TweakUI just for XP, it's on the page that Moskie linked to.

didnt think that.
i was going by this http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.ht...+ui&tg=dl-2001 Tweak UI 1.33 pop Enhance Windows with this free set of tools. OS: Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me File Size: 64K License: Free size is different too. |
Something worth trying. Check Internet Explorer and see if the >View>Text Size has been modified. It should be set to Medium by default. I doubt it will do anything, but it's worth a shot.

Make sure you're colors are set to 32 bit. I know if I revert back to 16 bit for some reason, my icons do that same thing.
It's worth checking anyway. |
Bump.. I'm having the same problem right now. Xp Pro, Service Pack 1, Athlon XP 2400+, 256 megabytes Corsair DDR, Radeon 9000. Tried icon repair in TweakUI, no difference. Under Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance I have it set for best appearance, still no luck. I'm pretty sure the color is set at 32 bit, I'll doublecheck when I get home. Any other ideas?
