thoughts on Xandros 2.0
the blurb from their website:
"Xandros Desktop OS version 2 is an intuitive graphical environment that works right out of the box and offers unrivaled compatibility with Microsoft Windows. This new release adds the kind of industry-leading usability features you've come to expect from Xandros, like drag-and-drop CD burning in Xandros File Manager and single-click creation of zip and tar file archives." so, anyone have any experience with this? I've been wanting to get away from Micro$oft produced OS for a while now and this looks interesting to me. What Im looking for is a stepping stone type of OS, one that will let me get into Linux without the huge learning curve. is this the right choice? |
I signed up for the trial version of Lindows to test this whole MS to Lindows compatibility deal, didnt really inpress me all that much, many of the programs took more than normal load speeds to get up and running. Also last time i checked Lindows still didnt have compatiblilty for the newer based Radeon cards. To me Xandros looks alot like Lindows did a couple years ago right now. Id hold off if i were you and wait for the reviews to come in.

don't wanna troll here but..., Xandros 2.0 isn't really impressive, i mean, just stick to XP until Longhorn comes out. Around 2006 hardware manufacturers should start supporting linux heavily and linux should start emerging a lot more than it is now. Linux will eventually have it's glory, it's nice seeing those IBM commercials on TV to reassure me that it won't blow over. Now to answer your question, Xandros 2.0 is pretty stable, but it's rather ugly and not quite perfect yet. Fedora Core 1 was a real nice distro but was plagued with bugs, if you can wait for Core 2 in April, then use that.
