Help with Google...
for some reason everytime i try to logg onto the google website it says that site doesn't exist... however i can get to the google image search just fine. i can also download the tool bar but it won't let me do any searches with it.
i suspect i might have some kinda virus or something? i use lavasoft's ad-ware and norton utilities anti-virus protector regularly. i clean out my cookies regularly and clear my web cache often... can somebody help? - thanks, MAV |

try this
http://www.google.com/default.reg and check your hosts file for strange addresses overriding google should look like this usually its in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and its just called hosts # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost |

hosts
click on the the start button. then click on "run". enter this "notepad.exe c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" without the quotes (->"<- these things).
press enter. this is your hosts file. look at the post above and remove anything that is diferent then that post. this is the result of addware. to remove things like this, you need to get a copy of a program like "adaware". http://www.lavasoft.de/

yeah i'd be sure its a hosts file redirection,
itll say something like 1.2.3.4 google.com www.google.com etc only the 1.2.3.4 will be different. -- forget this bit select this file:///C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts then when it asks, say select program from list scroll down find notepad and click it, then press OK, thatll edit the file, then save it or click this file:///C:/windows/notepad.exe then click this file:///C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/ and drag the hosts file onto notepad hmm doesnt seem to work so well off ie.. http://www.cpanel.net/contact.cgi <--- this company sucks almost as much as CWS.
Download the removal tool and follow the instructions: http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html Download your patch from microsoft and run it (install): http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...0/download.asp Download the MS Service Pack 1 for Windows XP if you use Windows XP and install: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...p1/network.asp If you don't use XP, then run the WindowsUpdate Utility and install all updates until no more appear in the download manager.
