I just bought myself xp2800+ // a7n8x-e deluxe // kingston 2x256 pc3200 and i was just wondering what's a normal processor die/socket temprature? no google link i've been to could answer it... teh spectrum ranges from 30c to 50c and i wanted to ask the forum of experienced users what a normal temprature would be... thanks in advance!

Cooler the better, anything near or over 130 fahrenheit your itching for trouble. My CPU sits at a nice 105 degrees. My board sits at about 90 degrees. 120 or less would be my opinion. or 48 celcius.

As long as you don't go over 60 celsius you're fine. 50 degrees under full load is a good temperature. If ya get near 60 or over, then you may have problems.

130 is realy pushing it, try to keep it under 125 at a minimum

im running 116 at a full load. Over clocked 15%

uh oh..

im running a athl xp 1800+,

and she sits around 60-65 C when doing normal stuff and up to 70 C under gaming.

is this a problem i should look into? ive never crashed or shown any slowdown or anything.

I'd take a look at the CPU heatsink-fan and see if it's installed correctly with the right amount of thermal grease. Mine runs at 55-60 celsius and up to 63 under load, but it's not overclocked, so I'm not worrying about anything. It's been that way for a year. I bought a newer CPU heatsink fan a few months ago and it lowered it about 5 degrees. The default Athlon XP CPU heatsink fan should be doing fine. What's your motherboard's thermal shutdown? If it stays under that (it obviously is) then I'd say it's fine. Overclockers prefer it to be under 60 celsius, but for non-overclockers 70 is probably alright. I'd buy a better CPU heatsink fan just to be sure, but that's up to you! Sometimes a system is simply never gonna be as cool as you want it. It depends on the airflow in your case BIG time as well.

chack hte heat sink and get some thermal grease between the DIE and teh heatsink

well, my case isnt exactly situated in the best position.

theres basically, a wall 5 inches behind it, and its right beside my 19" monitor, so there is no air flow.

That will be my mission for today.

Yay for winter breaks and boredom fillers.

I've had my CPU reach 136F when running CS...my mobo alert went off and I was able to take care of it.

It idles around 107-113 w/ the side off and a 6" fan blowing on the mobo.

I've used thermal grease and a pretty nice heatsink, can't seem to stay cool tho...o btw it's a 2400+

jus finished up.

i picked up a thermaltake volcano 7+, and a nice case fan.

cpu temp hasnt gone over 58 yet, just finished some deus ex and gta vc. and i even o/c'd it to a 2000+ from 1800+.


i cant beleive what a difference. I think my stock athlon fan was either barely working, or not effectively at least

Ah, today has been rather productive. best way to spend 50 dollars kick in the teeth christmas bonus

tech specs
 

amd's website has some in depth tech specs on their processors. after about 10 min, i found that the "Maximum die temperature" for an XP is 90 C. this probably means that is will melt at that point. i run a p4 1.6a overclocked to 2.1 with water cooling. my temps top out around 45 C.

I remember the old amd thunderbird processors (the first socket a processors) Mine used to run at about 160 constantly..never had any problems though. Those where some hot ass running processors.
