weird problem
I've just noticed this odd thing happening... any time my browser tries to pop a new window open, nothing happens.
Like, I've got msn messenger running, and any time I try and click the link in the main window that takes you to your hotmail account it won't work. Or I was on a site that pops an image gallery open in a new window, and the link doesn't work. Has anyone got any idea how I can solve this, cos it's getting on my nerves? |
Can depend on a lot of things.
What is your default webbrowser? (maybe you should change the mozilla settings although MSN uses IE, so I doubt this is the problem) Your virusscanner? (I believe Norton 2004 has it's own popup blocker or something) Your firewall? (maybe ZoneAlarm is configured wrong?) |
I don't think it's any of those things cos it's come on all of a sudden, without me changing anything about my pop up blocker, my firewall or my virus scanner. I use IE6, Win2000, Norton, Sygate Personal Firewall and The Proxomitron ad blocker. Normally I'm pretty okay at solving these kind of problems on my own, but this one's got me licked. Even if I right-click a link and select 'open in new window' in the context menu, nothing happens.
My browser sort of freezes up for 30 seconds to a minute and if I switch away from it, I can't switch back. Then suddenly it frees up and when I go back, it's as if nothing had happened. |
Make sure you have the system resources available to have all those programs running at the same time. It sounds like it's just bogged down. Check the settings on your blocker, firewall and virus scanner anyways just in case, and make sure they aren't blocking anything (besides viruses and attacks, of course)

I've had this problem before as well myself with IE. I never could figure out what made it happen or how to fix it. Switched over to Mozilla Firebird and it hasn't happened with it yet. It's definitely an IE problem. As far as I can tell its not a resource problem either, as the system doesn't freeze, just the 2nd IE window that was open. The first one stays open without any problems. I've found it only happens when a new window is open, either by CTRL-N, the command from "File", or from checking email from MSN Messenger. I'll look into this myself as well and post any findings.

maybe there's a popup blocker?
neways...u'd better start using mozilla firebird with 'all in 1 gestures' plugin its google times better&faster than IE |
hmm... there used to be a thread in the porn section too that told you how to configure mozilla so it was the ultimate smut browser... maybe it's time to switch...
edit: sweet jebus! i go through all the hassle of switching over to mozilla, only to find the problem has *completely randomly* sorted itself out. i hate computers. |
