DOS probs on XP

Whenever I try to run a DOS game on XP, the 'screen' is about 1 inch too low. It has happened with all the DOS-based programs I've run that I haven't launched from a DOS startup. I realise that it's emulated in XP, but any ideas on how to get it normal?

The Stats:

Intel Penium 4 laptop, 1.2 Ghz
256 MB RAM
Windows XP Proffesional
Some unrecognised russian-made video card

For some reason, I can't partition my HD at all, so I can't make a DOS startup drive.
I'm thinking a proper DOS emulator might be the way to go, anyone got any suggestions?

Normally it's because it's using some kind of funny screen mode. Desktop users can either tweak your gfx card to use a different refresh rate for that resolution, or alter the monitor settings to move the picture back up.
However, more difficult on a laptop. Apparently fiddling with the Fn-F keys sometimes gets it to re-jig the video settings; have you tried playing with those? Put it into crt mode briefly and change back etc... hope it might help!
