I would trade my cat for this computer, and I really love my cat...
One more time, THERE IS NO ATA HDD!

"configurable WITHOUT a System Hard Drive with all operating system and program files permanently sitting a on a Flash RamDisk. It operates at the speed of the maximum available memory bandwidth up to 8.0GB/s and is capable of over 150,000 I/O requests per second, with an average of 0.0% CPU utilization. No Hard Disk design, not even 15.000RPM SCSI devices in multiple RAID cofigurations can come close to providing a fraction of the real-world performance of PuRam™ Technology."

Up to 2TB of HDD space on a flash ramdisk...
Now I will give you time to talk amongst yourselves...

i want some of those monitors...

numist 11-23-2003 02:00 PM

I would probably offer my first born for something like that, but I'd prefer to have two physical 3.8 processors over a hyper threaded

Amarth 11-23-2003 02:04 PM

I'd eat fireants for that piece (live ones)! It's awesome!

kel 11-23-2003 02:50 PM

Doesn't flash RAM have a short life in terms of rewrites?

arch13 11-23-2003 03:44 PM

everyone needs to be honest here.
None of us have a need for that. it's the definition of overkill and you wouldn't get any value out of it since were not running genetic modeling or radio Mhz analysis at full blast.
It's like owning a Ferrari on a mile long island, simply overkill.
i can't even think of a game that would need anywhere near that, can you :hmm:

*Edit*
yes, flash memory has a lower life span and is far more suceptable to electromagnetic failure

Sion 11-23-2003 04:04 PM

arch, yes, none of us NEED that much speed and power. that is obviously beside the point. we want it, simple as that. cmon, tell me you wouldnt LOVE to have that machine, if it were given to you (or if you were mega rich and could afford it). hell, Im half tempted to take out a loan just to get one, lol.

sailor 11-23-2003 04:08 PM

*splooge*

Neccesary or not, that is a badass system.

charliex 11-23-2003 04:20 PM

SSD drives are better than hard drives for retention since they don't rely on magentic disks, they have no moving parts, temperature domains are much wider.

800,000 MTBF and 5,000,000 write/erase (per bit) and 10 years retention for a flash drive is typical.

They'll be a ot more common in a few years, but at current prices around 1k per 1G you only see them on systems demanding really high performance.

its quite a common system spec. around these parts, i was thinking of buying one of the 3.8 myself, but it seems go-l is actually a fake company or at least highly dodgy , so if you are going to buy one of these system from them, check it out in depth.

the hardware *is*real but the company is the fakey one, most of us still think its a complex gag rather than a scam, but who knows.

The specs on some of the system are a little, ahem, glorified.

kel 11-23-2003 04:24 PM

I can just imagine some malicious program using virtual memory on the drive, rewriting the same bits very frequently...

charliex 11-23-2003 04:30 PM

actually the only bits of the machines i havent been able to find so far, is those cool looking front panels, the ones on the go-l site are very obvious photochops.

Dilbert1234567 11-24-2003 01:56 PM

its using ram as teh hard drive this mean sthat you can not shut it off, with out lossing EVERYTHING. power outages woudl wipe your system clean .

further the phase change cooling is n ice but eats through your electric bill. real fast coupled with being on 24/7 its not for the casual user.

sweet machein but not worth it. you can build the same system for less ($6000 or so)

Lasereth 11-24-2003 02:23 PM

Anyone else think it's funny that the processor in that PC (3.8 GHz Pentium 4 EE) has to have Vapor-Cooling at stock? I wonder how Intel is gonna get around that for consumer use. :)

That's a damn nice PC. Way overpriced (those monitors kill it), but at least a third of it is simply the processor. The 3.2 GHz EE is almost $800 with each consecutive EE going up in price exponentially. I think I read somewhere that it will debut for $3000 US? That's right, just the processor.

This machine isn't overkill. With games like Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 coming out, it's gonna be a while before a true overkill is introduced. Overpriced and not worth the money, but surely not overkill.

I'd take it for free though!

rock_bottom 11-24-2003 04:29 PM

The thing is... less than 10 years people would have been this crazy about and probably paid as much money for a 150mhz Pentium with 128mb of RAM 80gb of disk space and a 21" monitor, hehee.

charliex 11-24-2003 04:45 PM

the ram is battery backed up if you switch it off it loses nothing, well only what you would lose if you turned off a machine with a regular hard drive, ie anything in the write cache

the reason the 3.8 has a vapour cooler is because its overclocked not stock, intel won't need to do the same since they'll design it to function correctly.

also remember since the site is pretty much considered to be fake, the prices probably are too

Thanks for the info. I didn't think Intel had made a stock EE over 3.6 GHz, but I'm not a huge Intel fanboy so things can change!

charliex 11-25-2003 02:23 PM

the 3.8 isn't out publically yet, the first will be the prescott line not ee, which is set for release next year, Q1 i think, may have moved.

They haven't told us if theres going to be any faster EE's released publically, i will ask our intel rep next time i talk to him

LIES!!! I Need that. I could play some cool games on it and really watch some great pr0n on those monitors.

*drools*

/me prays Please please please!!!

Jeff 11-29-2003 08:37 PM

Very cool computer, I still smell bullshit though.

arael 11-29-2003 10:17 PM

ya.. i think it's part scam... but i wouldn't mind getting one for free.

You guys might want to take a look there before you totally disregard there authenticity. These guys have a good rep for producing good articals and always giving the facts, so I trust them. Now the actual specs of the system, I dont know, but at least its showing that the monitor and the Case are totally real.

charliex 11-30-2003 06:03 PM

the hardware is valid, but its made by other people. so far no ones been able to get liebermann to sell them one, they are about two blocks from one of the places i work, and i can't get in for a demo.

plus everything with them is still not ready to sell, and they won't answer direct questions, and the guy behind them uses an alias apparently.

They only ever seem to show off the displays, which have been on sale elsewhere for ages. The case is just a http://vapochill.com/
pci expansion chassis http://www.magma.com/
laptops http://www.clevo.com.tw/
"grandview" monitors http://www.9xmedia.com/pages-Build_a...gurations.html

heres the story here.

Man I could rip dvds and edit video like a rape ape with that thing...
