Caution: Gigabyte Radeon 9800 Pro failure
 

I just had to send in my video card to Gigabyte for fan/heatsink failure which cooked the chip. One day I started to hear an unusual fan noise and about ten seconds later - poof - my monitor goes blank.

One of the heatsink pushipins came out and disengaged the heatsink from the chip, causing it to overheat.
If you have this card, check your pushpins. Luckily I'm still under warrantee - whew I was sweating the $388 I paid for it in June. :eek:

I've had bad random things happen from everything to hard drives to cd burner...it's all luck of the draw...

Yeah I know what you mean. This is a very kick-ass card. Just as you said - bad luck. Just wanted to let others know to check theirs......just incase. ;)
