Does anyone know the validity of EzLaptop.com ??
I signed up for their "special" since it was only 5 bucks, through Paypal (which is supposedly pretty damn secure). Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of this so far? Does anyone have any idea if this thing is legit or not?
I really want to know if it's a scam or not. I mean, if it is, kudos to them, it's only 5 bucks anyway. But if it's real? Holy crap. |

It looks like a scam to me, but I'm pretty skeptical about those websites and 'great offers'. By the looks of it, they get paid by advertisers for 'click throughs' on their links. You click their banner, it registers as a click for the company by you, and you get credits. Whether or not you'll eventually get anything out of that deal remains to be seen. I did a search on a few websites about the website and not a single thing was returned, probably meaning that the website is brand new and nobody has dug into whether or not it is a scam or not yet. There's no good or bad commentary on thet net about it.
If you take a look at the 'whois' information on ezlaptop.com, you'll see this: Registrant: Domains by Proxy, Inc. 15111 N Hayden Rd., Suite 160 PMB353 Scottsdale, Arizona 85260 United States Registered through: GoDaddy.com Domain Name: EZLAPTOP.COM Created on: 14-Jul-03 Expires on: 14-Jul-04 Last Updated on: 30-Jul-03 Administrative Contact: Private, Registration EZLAPTOP.COM@domainsbyproxy.com Domains by Proxy, Inc. 15111 N Hayden Rd., Suite 160 PMB353 Scottsdale, Arizona 85260 United States (480) 624-2599 Fax -- Technical Contact: Private, Registration EZLAPTOP.COM@domainsbyproxy.com Domains by Proxy, Inc. 15111 N Hayden Rd., Suite 160 PMB353 Scottsdale, Arizona 85260 United States (480) 624-2599 Fax -- Domain servers in listed order: NS9.HASWEB.COM NS10.HASWEB.COM If you check out www.domainsbyproxy.com and see what it is they actually offer, Domain Names w/o showing your private information, it leads to even more skepticism on my part. If you believe that www.ezlaptop.com is attempting to defraud you, I'd suggest following through with the information you can find on this page: http://www.domainsbyproxy.com/LegalA....aspx?prog_id= |

Well, since you seem to be getting points quickly... keep us updated. I wouldn't mind a laptop for the price of a few more spam emails a week. I could always just create a temporary account.
Again, I couldn't find any reviews on the site... you can be its first reviewer! Let us know if it works =P |

It is most definitely fake. I just received this e-mail.
Hi! Congratualtions!! I\'ve got great news... You\'ve just earned enough points to win your brand new Sony Vaio laptop from EzLaptop!... NOT! LOL Wasn\'t that funny, how I got you\'re hopes up about winning a laptop and just messed with your head like that? Heck, I sure thought it was. ROFL But you know what\'s even funnier? In such a short time I got over 1,000 of you knuckleheads to pay me $5 a piece... ...To get advertised to!! It\'s outright hilarious! Well, I\'ve gotten what I wanted... I\'ve raised the $5,000 I wanted for my vacation this year, and just thought that I\'d tell you guys what patsies you are. I\'m about to head back to the beach. Just dropped in my hotel room here in beautiful St. Lucia to send you this email. In case you didn\'t figure it out... You\'re NOT getting any laptop loser, but I sure as heck am getting my vacation. :-) See ya! |

HAHA lol sorry you lost your $5, but that shit is funny. What an easy way to make money, and he did it KNOWING that people will pay him for the chance to get something they KNOW they won't end up getting anyway!

from the site ->
Some of you may have received a very disturbing e-mail recently. Please note that this is NOT from us! Someone hacked into the site and e-mailed all the members this message. This was one of our members who cheated out the system then wanted to receive their laptop. We do not accept cheaters in our system in ANY way! We can assure you this was just an angry member at us for not giving him his laptop after cheating the system out. If you have any questions at any time, please contact us right away! Our site has daily back-ups and the site will be back up very shortly! Please check back for any news. 11-20-03/ 10:50AM CST - We are currently in contact with the hosting company to get the site brought back up. Sorry for the delay. We hope to get the site back up very soon! Any customers signed-up within the last couple days will most likely have to open a new account since the site is only backed-up every few days. (If the user desires to.) 11-20-03/ 8:30AM CST - We have a strong feeling who is behind these attacks. We will not be releasing any more information at this time until we can confirm the real attackers. But whoever is behind these attacks will be reported and be dealt with to the fullest extent! |

Got this e-mail today:
First off we apologize to any customers that received a disturbing e-mail earlier today. Please note that this was NOT sent from us! Our site was hacked last night by an angry customer who cheated out the system and ending up catching this. Some how they found a leak into our site and decided it would be funny to e-mail all our customers and lie to them thinking they could pretend to be us. This is a serious crime to hack into sites and destroy their databases. It is no game to play. And once we find out who has done this, we will be reporting them. We are also disturbed by some of our customer's e-mails. Swearing and cussing at us and not asking what was going on. This was not a polite way to handle the matter. We wish that customers would have come to us first to find out if this was a hack or what not. We\'re sorry to hear that some of our customers would think we wrote this nasty e-mail. We are getting our site looked at and having any open holes fixed so this does not happen again. We are asking all customers who filed complaints through PayPal to take these off and talk to us first. We would be happy to talk with you and tell you what had happened. Please contact us with any questions you may have. Thank you, EZLaptop.com --------------------------- My account was reinstated this morning, leading me to believe that they were, in fact, hacked. Whether they're real or not is still a mystery. Last edited by insidious_machinae; 11-20-2003 at 03:21 PM.. |

-- I don't believe they were hacked for a minute!! Although that's a halfway-credible story and likely response when hundreds of people report this guy to PayPal and they try and hit his credit card....
-- Even if they were hacked, what the heck, they can't be real. The shady domain registration is one clue...and just read their FAQ!! A lot of the language sounds like it was written by a 16 year old: From their FAQ: Q: What about computer upgrades as technology advances fast? A: Yes the laptop upgrades as time goes on, and as technology advances. You don't have to worry about receiving a crappy laptop when it comes time to receive yours! The laptop usually advances when major changes happen in the technology world. WTF!!! BTW their site is still down, but is in Google's cache. But I'll give this guy credit -- that's a real clever scheme. Just like redlemon said -- nobody's going to bother taking them to small claims court over $5. The guy's identity is well-hidden and I doubt anyone would try to get their money back, even if it were actually possible. Isn't this how spammers usually make money -- take the money and run? Does anyone personally know any "successful" spammers? Looks like a big business....This whole thing made me think, that is probably how most of them make their money.... |

Hmm, I made lots of money, wrote a letter telling everyone what I did, but wait! I could make more money if I just LIE and say it was a hack! I love the internet!
