Audio: Different Programs, Different Outputs?

I want to find out how you all would go about setting something like this up.

I want to do this,

Have Windows Media Player Playing out of one output connected to headphones.

Have Winamp playing out of a different output connected to speakers.

The two audio streams can't cross. and the solution needs to be with a single computer. There are a few reasons I would like to do this, one of which being that I might be doing some DJ work soon and it would be an ideal way to preview tracks coming up and cue up something appropriate. another reason would be to maybe have a game going on in my headphones and winamp playing on the speakers.

And, I do have an extra soundcard.

I would just like your solutions/opinions.

Thanks!

i don't know how to change audio routing in wmp.

in winamp, go to preferences - output plugins - configure. you should be able to select what soundcard winamp is using. change the settings until you can get the two programs using different outputs.

probably the way to control wmp is through the windows sound settings, in the control panel

i use an aardvark lx6 soundcard, which has 6 output channels. i just tried to do what you're talking about - i can't get it to work with wmp and winamp. it's wmp that's the problem. winamp and other audio progs are playing back fine for me. also, if you had one program playing back, and tried to start playback in the second program (to preview, say), expect some glitches in the audio of the first program.

you may want to look at software that is designed for the dj'ing application. check out Native Instruments' Traktor

Ok, I found where your talking about in winamp. Maybe ill just run winamp2 and winamp3 to do this. I should have enough ram to make em both sound smooth no matter what. but it might be possible that ram isnt the problem. for the longest time I was trying to do this in software with just my line out and my speaker outputs. I didnt understand the whole concept of outputs and all. thanks for your help.
