Overclocking Problems - Abit IC7 - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

my rig consists of a brand new p4c 2.6, Abit IC7 mobo, 1 GB corsair TwinX 3700. I have a MCX4000-b atop my procesor with a 92mm vantec tornado so heat isnt my problem. Everything runs fine stock. As i turned it up to 2.8 benchmarking was fine but games crashed. I can hit 3GHz, but crash when benchmarking. I tried different voltages with the same results. when i bought the ram is said the relaxed timings allowed for the Canterwood board to overclock very well. and I had better luck with cheapo 512 kingston ram, but i hate to think my brand new corsair isnt handling the load. What could be the problem? thanks for the help

Along with relaxing your mem timings, you could increase the ddr voltage a little, that usually helps.

it worked a little bit better brinning up the DDR voltage, but only to like 2.8. and i was getting higher marks with that cheap kingston that i spoke of earlier at the same speed. thanks for the feedback though!

You should try the following settings:

First things first, set your memory timings manually (do not use SPD). Not knowing what your memory is rated for, I'd suggest the following under the assumption that this is fast/quality PC3200. 2-5-3-2, or 2-6-3-2.

Next, set the GAT settings to Auto, Auto, Auto, Disabled, Disabled. The last two are not essential but will increase stability.

Set AGP voltage to 1.65v. This is not essential but may once again increase stability.

Set DDR voltage to default or manufacturer recommended.

Set strap to 800, cpu:mem devider to 5:4.

Set the FSB to 250 (effective will be 250:200).

Leave the cpu voltage at stock to begin. If you have problems, step up a little at a time, but don't go over 1.65v.

This should give you 3.25GHz while running your DDR400 at stock speeds.

sounds good, but a couple of quick questions. the RAM is Corsair 3700 with SPD timings of 3-4-4-8 which is relaxed as fuck, and from reviews i have read turning the cas down doesnt help much at all, do you think i should keep these timings? What are the GAT settings? You said "set strap to 800" what did you mean by this? thanks again

i have corsair xms and i think my mem timings are set to 2-5-3-2. For the gat settings set it to auto auto disabled disabled. from top to bottom. your strap settings are found on the same page as your gat settings in the bios.
