I'm such a dork, but it's sooo nice!

Even though it was totally unnecessary for me to get it, I found a great deal on a 19” LCD on eBay. Some guy got a bunch from a company that closed, so it had a few scratches on the stand; no big deal. I gotta be honest though, I love having dual displays! It really seems to be more productive.

This thing is very bright and very clear! I can’t believe how much darker the screen on my laptop is compared to this! Incase anyone is wondering, its made by NEC and the model is MultiSync LCD1920NX.

sweet, i got dual display capabilities here on my desktop (geforce fx 5200) but i only have on CRT 17 inch monitor flat screen, i would like to get an lcd sometime soon save a lil space and hook em both up at once

Thraeryn 10-02-2003 11:41 AM

That would be pretty sweet. I envy you!

You should check these TouchPad things out to increase your productivity. Left and right click, scrolling, browser forward and back, double click, click and drag, even text size enlarging/shrinking with simple finger motions on the pad. They rock.

a1t3r3g0 10-02-2003 11:43 AM

That's cool :) I might get myself a really nice desktop PC for Christmas and I think I might buy another LCD, probably 17", to run duals with.

Thraeryn: thanks :)
That touchpad looks interesting... I dunno if I could get used to it though.

MontanaXVI 10-02-2003 11:49 AM

GF got the touchpad on the lappy i bought her and i am getting the hang of it pretty quickly, not sure if i would like on desktop though i love me optical intellimouse(have not gotten myself to drop the bling for a cordless one though)

a1t3r3g0 10-02-2003 11:53 AM

I never even use the touchpad on my laptop, I just use my mouse.

I second that. Touchpads are nice when you don't have the room for a mouse. But, me being the lazy ass I am, I just use an optical mouse and sit my ass on the couch with the laptop!

juanvaldes 10-02-2003 01:19 PM

once you go dual you never go back. :)

micah67 10-02-2003 03:20 PM

I'll second that dual-head sentiment. I set it up at work and got so used to it, I did the same on my main system at home. They're not LCDs, though. Maybe someday...

Flesh 10-02-2003 04:42 PM

cool, how much you pay for it? help me look for good monitor deals on ebay, plz, i need one :(

a1t3r3g0 10-02-2003 04:56 PM

Around $350 plus shipping.

Here ya go, have fun :) http://listings.ebay.com/pool2/listi....html?from=R11

Wyodiver33 10-02-2003 06:20 PM

I have a 19 inch CRT and a 17 inch CRT. I will never use only one monitor again. lol.

Booboo 10-02-2003 09:10 PM

Cant go wrong with NEC... their monitors Rock. I have a 17" LCD 1769V. Its soooo nice. No ghosting with games like lot of LCD's only 16ms refresh rate.. hella good for a lcd I think. It actually looks bigger than my 19" CRT too. Awsome monitors and a great deal! I payed 350ish for this one.

Johnny Rotten 10-02-2003 10:18 PM

Not dorky at all. I would kill for a 19" LCD. They're just out of my price range. Nice grab!

Lebell 10-02-2003 11:02 PM

Some day, dualies...

(Yeah, I've had a taste, but no friggin room right now...)

You have are 100% correct on that one, except where I can't (aka work).

I'm running the same 1 19" and 1 17". I just can't get along w/o it.

Dibbler 10-03-2003 08:07 AM

I use dual monitors at work - Two 17" crt's with a Matrox G450 Dualhead. I have to say, I hate it! Could be the video card but everything pops up right in the middle so you have to drag it to one of the monitors to read. Also, video will only play on the left monitor using Windows Media Player. Just a pain to me. Works great for engineering apps. but not for general use in my opinion.

termnl 10-03-2003 11:29 AM

We just got dual monitors at work and it was a dream come true...heh....but thats because the monitors are dell ultrasharp 18.1"s.

I have to agree though...I will never go back to a single head display.

arcane 10-04-2003 02:41 AM

once you've been on three monitors...going back to two or one seems impossible

hehehe

3 x monitors = 3 x productivity

or at least that's what i keep telling myself

Dual? wa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha I have 5 heads on "medusa" My G4 Mac. Will have 7 soon... currently, there are 3 21" trinitrons, and 2 27" VDU units for video editing! Soon to be added: 2 more 21 inch screens... People just TRIP when they come over, and even more when I show them how they all get used!!

How are two displays more efficent for a normal home user ? (i.e. no video editing and heavy graphics work etc)

Do you guys read a .doc file on the left screen, and play CS on the right one? ;)

I just can't imagine how one could use that much desktop space in a reasonable way.

So please, enlighten me. Because... well it definitely looks stylish :)

toxic515 10-04-2003 07:15 PM

Frankly, Vulture, for a normal human being, 2 screens, especially 18" or larger are fine. I like to surf on 3 monitors, because I can chat full screen, and surf diff. forums on diff screens or whatever. Doing the video and writing music requires all the desktop real-estate you can afford yourself, as there are many aspects of those applications which is best to have a better view of.

vulture 10-05-2003 07:15 AM

ok, I think I'm beginning to see the benfits :)

But:

Is that a common problem ?

Also, all I need is a video card that has two exits? (For a desktop pc)

Must be the video card. With mine, Windows pop up where they last ran, or if they are being run for the first time will come up in the middle of the left screen.
I can also play video on both monitors.. in fact, I just tried and I can have quicktime and realone player playing on the left, and have a full screen avi playing on the right in Windows Media Player.

vulture 10-05-2003 08:20 AM

dude, that sounds totally cool!
watching two vids at the same time :)

ok, a 2nd display goes definitely on my wishlist for xmas

MontanaXVI 10-05-2003 04:44 PM

i want a lcd and lose the crt but alas same with the cordless mouse aint got myself to drop bling for one yet.

10-05-2003 04:59 PM

I just bought a 21" Sony Trinitron mointor, quite the step up from a 15" budget nec. It has made my day.
