Virtual Dub is good and free

i use one called 'easy video joiner'.

it can join all sorts of formats

I'll put in another vote for VirtualDub - it's excellent if you want to do all sorts of even quite complicated things.

I use Easy Video Joiner as well. I've tried a ton of them and this one seems to do the best job for me...

Another vote for VirtualDub here - plus it's completely free (GPL). Never tried What is Easy Video Joiner though, but I see that it's a trial.

I prefer TMPEG over Virtual Dub, it just tends to work much better for me.

MPGs: tmpgenc
AVIs: virtualdub

but that's just me. :)

If you've got Windows Movie Maker on your pc, you can use that to easily (drag-and-drop) video files together and save them off as WMV. It's up to you if you can accept the loss of quality, but it's definetly the easiest and fastest way IMO.

Boilsoft's AVI/MPEG/RM Joiner works excellent for me. I know some of the other's don't have drag and drop and this one does. makes it mich easier. Just wish it would auto delete the original files.

I've found that Movie Maker is only useful if you have movies that the freeware programs can't join, aka errors, crashes, or other problems.

Movie Maker is slow. You also have know how to set up your output video as well, other wise movie maker just makes it the recommended size for your computer, which is rarely the same size and setup as the sum of the movies you are trying to join.

I personally like EasyJoiner and Movie Joiner. (Movie Joiner is free and good, but you can only join 3 movies at a time without paying for the software. It's also great because it can join quicktime files!)

Movie Maker is a good cheap program. I dont' find a problem with it being slow. THe best thing about it in my opinion is that you can import clips and it automatically breaks the clip up into different scenes.
