Best Download Manager?
I've been looking to get a download manager, but I can't seem to decide on which one is the best.
It seems like everyone has their favorite download manager, but it also seems like there is never any kind of consensus on the best one. They all seem to have to some kind of drawback like lots of spyware or just not doing what they're supposed to. So I thought I'd put in this poll to help decide this debate. If you use one not on the list, choose "other" and put the name in your reply. |
I use Flashget, and will recommend it. If you want to get rid of the spyware you need to register it then you can run adaware or spybot to remove the spyware that is installed for the "free" or "ad supported" version instead of the spyware free "registered" version.
Mostly people have tried a few and just stayed with the one that they liked or the one that worked best for their needs. |
i like flashget, it works pretty well the only think i havent been able to get it to do is download the same file from multiple places at once, but i havent really tried hard,
I've always liked netvampire.. It's verry usefull and has a lot of features and addons.
I've always had DAP Plus or whatever shareware version that had of it.
No ads and pretty good speeds makes me happy. |
been with getright for about 5 years now, great little product and sometimes is able to give me downloads faster than my isp capped me at, ie 640k on a 128k connection, i didnt complain
I've used a few and settled on getright for all my windows downloading needs. Does eveything that I ask of it, its also quite stable and tends to crash very rarely, if at all.
Ive only used dap, but I think ill try getright now
DAP is real buggy for me, half the time I download a file the application terminates and I lose the download. I use GetRight now and am loving it.
I used to use GoZilla years ago but then they started saying that I had to pay to use it, so I erected the middle finger. |
I've always used DAP and haven't had any problems with it.
Flashget is the BEST...I use it...you gotta pay to get rid of the ads...BUT there are OTHER ways of getting rid of them too;););)...it's real easy to figure out how...LOL...it's ESPECIALLY useful when downloading pr0n...:D...THANX
C'YA ?:-D |
I have used DAP for a while---BUT I got tired of that constant advertisement flashing in my eyes---so one day I went into the hard drive and I found that sucker and removed it---I figured I had nothing to lose, since it was free and I could uninstall and reload it.....it is in there somewhere where the rest of the DAP stuff is stored...
I've used Star Downloader, myself. No ads, no spyware, no registration, all free.
i second the star downloader. i use it at work to get around our cruddy network.
i didn't like dap at all. |
I used DAP until I got broadband, and now I just use IE to download stuff. I haven't really had a need for a download manager since I got broadband. I guess if I wanted to queue up a ton of files, I would prolly just get DAP again, the interface is so simple, and it doesn't have the bloat of some of the other download managers I've tried in the past.
DAP is the only one I have used, and it works fine for me!
I use an old version of Getright, no ads, no problems. It's not like I really need it with a T1 connection. But it still does a good job.
FlashGet (registered) + Norton AntiVirus = automagically scanned downloads, placed in a filetype-specific folder that you select, with a fun little transparent box that hovers over your desktop, letting you see how quickly the download is going.
It kicks ass. Go get it. |
I like stardownloader it"s free. No ads or spies. http://stardownloader.com/
I really like DAP. it's not too big, it does what I need it to, (I esp. like the Download All button) and running Spybot-S&D kills the built in ads.
Have tried a few of the options out there, and still prefer the built-in DL manager for Opera. Have never had a corrupt file or issu...problems with it at all, and have grabbed everything from small audio/txt files to numerous large ISO files with it.
i'd have to reccomend the built in download manager in Mozilla... it's about as simple as they get though...
Download mage is pretty good. Lets you batch queue urls and do batch downloads.
wget for Linux. I just ssh into my Linux box from wherever I am, start the download, forget it, come home, move it to the laptop, done. :)
voted for GetRight, it's been my standard Windows DL manager for quite some time.
FlashGet is probably about equal, just a matter of using one or the other. for some things i use other progs (wget, Offline Explorer) but for basic stuff, GetRight. |
