Kazaa Rumor
I am looking for someone who can confirm, deny or if someone else has heard this rumor. If you empty out your Kazaa shared folder and it still lists you as hosting a single file it means you've downloaded a ghost program from the "powers-that-be' (RIAA, etc.) and they are tracking your downloads and a possible candidate for a subpoena. Who's heard this and does anyone know if its true? Thanks
|
This reeks of an urban legend spread by RIAA-sympathizers. I'd say it's the result of sloppy programming in Kazaa. Mine lists incorrect numbers all the time. It's probably the hidden index.dat file in the folder.

/me bets on rumor. Kazza IS shitty programming.
|
Sounds fairly far fetched. I use kazaa a fair bit and have never come across any ghost program.
|
I wouldn't give the RIAA that much credit. Plus, if they got you to DL something that did something shady like that, it could be grounds for a lawsuit.
|
My guess is that its no more than a rumor.

i call bs

i bet its real

Bug.
Also, RIAA isn't going after Joe Filesharer. They are slapping subpoenas on people with huge volumes of shared content on colo servers. |
Why do they attack Kazaa and not IRC, dont pirated files/warez usually begin on IRC, then move onto Kazaa.
And does TFP consider Kazaa downloads warez? |
It's probly just a bug. My friend had the same thing happen to him, now he is all paranoid about using Kazza. Now he's only using IRC.
