Winamp users: Better sound for free!

Don't wanna pay for DFX but you love the way it makes your Mp3s sound? Look no further!

ENHANCER

And you believed your music can't sound better ...
Guess again! These days we have the Enhancer

It works by compensating the lack of fidelity in an usual audio system connected to the PC. If you have a very good audio system, most of the times this program will make it sound even better.

I use this religiously and I will never listen to my mp3s without it. Also you can enhance your movies by downloading ffdshow and dsp2dshow. This allows you to use Enhancer's features on ANY player you watch movies with.

I'll have to check that out. I tried DFX a while back and thought it made MP3s sound too distorted. Plus I had a bit of a difficult time getting it off my system. I've also heard good things about ffdshow. Thanks for the links!

It's cool, but it sounds a little artificial in my opinion.

Holo, I downloaded enhancer and installed it but now can't find it or how to access it. Got any suggestions?

kalisto_911 08-26-2003 11:03 AM

if it asked you for an install path then it is there

ie. install in C:/program files/winamp

sorry for the late late reply..I can't keep track of my threads sometimes :o

It's in your winamp preferences under DSP/Effect.just highlight it and click configure and there it is. I use the "general Improvements" settings and it's perfect for me.

I don't like how it's fucking with the volume. Any way to stop that?

For eveyone that doesnt like the artifical sound you should check out MAD, its a great plugin for winamp.

I've tried every plug-in for winamp possible, and no matter what I've tried my music always sounds like complete dog shit!
Enhancer makes it sound better, but it still doesn't compare to MusicMatch. It still sounds cheap to me. I always find myself fucking with the equalizer and the plug-in for winamp to try to get a decent sound, and once it sounds OK I have to change everything as soon as I start to listen to a different album. I haven't touched the equalizer for MusicMatch in months! I also have DFX for MusicMatch, but I haven't changed that since the day I installed it. I think Winamp blows.

What is different in the way MusicMatch Jukebox plays mp3s? Is there some sort of algorithm applied that is different from normal Winamp playback?

I actually like the way Winamp works with treble. I find I'm a person who likes a little bass but mostly I like to hear the vocals and higher instruments more than a hip hop song that just pounds out vibrations and you can barely hear the rest.

I'm downloading the movie enhancers now. I can't wait!

I don't know why it's so different, but everyone who's ever been to my place is like WTF is MusicMatch? I explain why I like it and what all can be done with it, and then let them hear the difference in sound quality between Winamp and MusicMatch. There is an obvious difference, and everyone who has been in front of my PC agrees that MusicMatch sounds 10x better.

I see, that's interesting to know. I'm always a fan of smaller and minimal programs so I use WinAmp because MusicMatch seems too bulky and ad-happy. Not sure if the quality is worth that really. I heard it also screws with IDv3 tags I've made on my songs from my iPod with Ephpod.
