No capture cards for 845GV Dells???
Hi, hope you can help. A friend of mine's been trying to get video capture cards from several makers to work in a Dell 2400, without luck. The "makers" of the video boards (AVers MP5004 card, etc.) NOW tell him after weeks of trying that nothing will work. He bought 2 new Dell 2400's to make a security CCTV system for some customers and now can't get the darn things to work. The video capture card people advertise that the motherboard must have the Intel®815/845 chipset which Dell's website says they do... BUT now it appears that the actual chipset is an 845 GV or something and that is why all Dells are incompatable with ANY video capture card.
Well, I just can't believe that. The card that was specified by the engineering docs was the AVer's MP5004. They worked with him for weeks to no avail. They even bought a Dim. 2400 with the exact specs and couldn't write any drivers that would work. He then tried a few other brand names (GV800) with the same results. Of course, it doesn't help if the different "brands" are based on the same few boards. Something about the "GV" chipset... cards only work with the 845 chipset. Most of these people have now placed "incompatable with Dell's" on their websites due to this issue. They now say "Motherboard: Intel®815/845 chipsets only". Oh, Dell says they don't make a computer with a 845 chipset, only variations on the 845 such as 845GV, etc. Jesus. I dunno what to tell him. I've been using Hauppauge's WinTV with my Dimension 4400 without problems. I think my board is a variation of 845 as well, but... Gee...anyone know what this 845GV is, and why it is impossible to find a compatible capture card for it?

Specifiying 845 Isn't all that helpful since there isn't an 845 chipset, its a range there is the GV,G,GE,PE,E
Only reason i can see why the GV wouldn't work is because it has no AGP interface, and uses the internal extreme graphics. Those video captures are high end cards, perhaps thats the reason ? its hard to believe even a usb or such style capture wouldnt work. |
