Computer wont get past windows xp boot screen

Help guys, my computer wont get past the windows boot up screen. It goes through the normal processes and when windows is loading, it just restarts, and does it again. I thought it was my video card, so i switched them out....same thing happens, ive switched out the ram, and tried booting in safe mode. Im compleatly lost, any advice will do. Thanks guys.

hmm.......a virus?

what is the result when you go into safe mode?? you can access the stuff?

i suggest a complete system scan in safe mode if safe mode works.

its possible you've killed the system registry somehow, thats one of the symptoms. after trying as much non destructive as you can try a system restore or a last known good hardware restore.

Yeah, is this the first time you've tried to load XP on that PC, or is this a new thing that just started happening? It sounds like the symptoms of a HDD switch onto another mobo or possibly hardware issues with XP.

hmm this happened to a friend of mine,

exactly the same thing
I had to reinstall windows to fix it, but he does that every 3 months anyway so he didnt care. Its usually caused by a bad regestry, He was doing a cleanup of his boot sequence and it screwed up, (its awesome if it works, shaves 10-15 secs off boot up),

as soon as you get past bios hit F8 and choose step by step confirmation...that should help you nail down where the boot up process is failing.

Try booting off the CD and run the recovery console. Then run "CHKDSK /R" without the quotes. I can't say for sure that this will fix it but it is worth a shot.

Let us know how it goes. Booting from the CD and reinstalling should fix it.

I have seen this kinda thing lots with win 2k/xp. If it boot and gets to the first splash screen and then reboots just before it gets to windows display mode, Id bet on corrupt registry. check out the ms article below and this will fix it for sure....

That also happened to me when I changed a HDD -- in my case I think it was XP's licensing mechanism that requires you to re-register if you change too many hardware components.
