Custom folders in XP
I'm sick of these Music and Picture folders in XP. Some folders turn to one of these special folders by themselves. I want to know if I can turn off this feature? When I try to turn the folder back to a normal one, it doesn't work. THe special folder options just stick with it no matter what.

I'm not sure exactly what it is that you're asking (sorry).
What you might want to try though is: First, if you haven't already, enable viewing of system and hidden files. Next, delete the desktop.ini file in the special folders. It'll remove any special settings associated with that folder. If you're worried about screwing anything up, just rename it |
i believe they are called shell folders, and you can move them around. i think the easiest way is to right click (hold) and drag them in explorer, then select "move here" from the resulting menu.
i'd just put them somewhere out of the way, then create new folders |
I should have been more clear. I'm not talking about the "My Music" or "My Pictures" folder. But when you right click ANY folder and click the Customize tab, their are available templates. I want to discontinue the ability to use templates.

Easy! Just do the following:
right click on my computer -> properties then click the advanced tab, click on the performance settings tab. Click on the Custom tab and then scroll down to the "Use Background Image for Each Folder Type". Uncheck it and you're all set. |
