Linux question
 

I have an onboard Gigabit ethernet connection on my mobo. I just installed Mandrake 9.1 on the computer, but it didn't detect this particular piece of my setup. How can I get this to work so I can connect to the internet and such? The motherboard is the Intel D875PBZ.

Have you searched Mandrake's HCL (Hardware Compatability List) ?? I could/may need new drivers to be installed.
Just as a suggestion.

Did you check and see if it dedects it on boot up? Check your boot logs for any errors and see if the right modules load up.
You can try Mandrakes hardware config thingy they have. I forget what it's called. Haven't used Mandrake in awhile :P

I don't know which one there would match your exact integrated configuration.

The LAN controller on your board is Intel® PRO/1000 CT...

Kel, I appreciate the help. I search around on Intel (followed the link from the manual) and found this: www.intel.com/design/motherbd/linux/ It has drivers for the Lan for Redhat 8/9 and SuSE 8.1/8.2. Do you think any of these would work with Mandrake? To the other posters, the Lan is being detected, but no appropriate driver is found.

If the driver works with Redhat there is a very good chance it will work with Mandrake. The linux kernel is the same and most distros include all the same basic support libraries.

But I think the driver for gigabit ethernet doesn't exist quite yet.

There is always the remote chance that the hardware is so similar that the drivers will interoperate to a degree. But the chip on your board is not the one those drivers were written for.

The driver for intel's exact implementation? The specific chip?
I did a search on google for the exact chipset that is on his motherboard and nothing came up.

Gigabit drivers exist for certain cards and chips, but as far as I can tell it isn't available on his implementation.

If you know where it is can you link it?
The exact chip is the Intel 82875P
I was unable to find a driver for it.
