*begs for help setting up his new P4*
I have a brand new Pentium 4 Northwood (2.4ghz, HT enabled)
When I turn it on for the very first time (After a CMOS reset) it reads: "CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded Warning! CPU has been changed. Please re-enter CPU settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before quit!" http://www.ecsusa.com/products/648fx.html that's my MB |
I can't get into Windows, if I try it flashes the "must shut down to prevent irreperable damage" message for less than a second and resets.
edit: I'm running WinXP Pro SP2, my boot HD is 40, I have an 80 for storage, plus a DVD drive and a CD burner (all IDE) |
Ok, first off go into your BIOS and manually load the default settings. That'll get rid of the first error.
As for the second one, is this a Windows error or a BIOS error? And is this a rebuild off an old computer? Because if it is, you're going to have to reinstall Windows. |
Also if your the one who put the system together check the temps of the CPU, make sure its not overheating.
