A while ago, I partitioned my hard drive into a fat32 drive. When I went to reformat my computer, it said I could not because I had done this. Is there any way around it?

also, try wiping the entire drive. use the utility that came with the drive that low level formats it. (writes 0s and 1s randomly)

hell, ten minutes of low level formatting is usaully enough to wipe the file system. then, you can do whatever you like to it.

and if it is (most likely) xp, you can't just change the partition to ntfs during the install. you need to delete that partition and then format it as ntfs. it is simple if you read the text.

there are programs (one from M$) that will convert an already installed fat32 partition to ntfs. it came with win2k. i think you can dl it still. but, yuo may lose all your data.

note: if you do a low level format you will lose all partitions!!! do not do it if you have your data backed up on the same hard drive!!!

Yep, I'm using XP. I'll try these methods and see if it works. Thanks everyone for your replies.

In no way is this a good practice, but usually if I want to delete a stubborn partition, I'll grab a linux install cd, throw that in, and wait till it gets to the partitions. Usually, with that, I can get rid of any partition and create any partition that I want. And heck, you're already on the first steps of a linux install, so why not go the rest of the way? =p

make sure you have fdisk on the boot disk. Then you can wipe out and recreate the partitions.

fdisk don't do that....
