Memory cards for cameras
I need to buy some SD cards for my camera.
I don't like to erase the cards so I keep buying more. We are taking a trip so I need more...there seem to be more "types" available recently...what to buy for regular snapshot travel pics that will not be enlarged over 4x6, just loaded into the computer |

why don't you like to reuse them? seems like a waste of money. that's the whole point of the reusable media. Not to mention if you lose or damage it, you've lost your images. I also make many backups from my computer and to Kodak Gallery and other servers.

Why not just archive them to an external hard drive? On a per-gigabyte basis, they're much cheaper.
You can buy a 500 GB hard drive or a 32 GB SD card for about the same price (+/- $50)

I like to keep the cards just in case my computer crashes...it has happened
being not very computer savvy, I take the easiest way out...sure there are sites that save pix but it seems too complicated for my pre computer brain. The 1 or2 gig cards are cheap enough, I was just wondering what SDXC does over the older "regular" cards....It was suggested that I use the RAW settings to take better pix, then use editing etc to get better quality...in reality I am making basically snapshots...then we print the ones we really like for a trip scrapbook... The older you get the more you realise that after we "are gone" who'll want these pictures anyway I have boxes and boxes of slides that were taken by my parents....most of the pictures are unidentified and who knows wht they are anyway, they are being "culled" some printed and the rest dumped.....The next generation is uninterested. |

All data media has limited lifespan, that includes SD cards too. Using more than 1 memory card for your pictures is very valid attempt to minimize loss if storage media is lost, but my opinion is that depending on SD cards only applies to pictures that haven't been copied to long term storage. You still have the added risk since there is only one copy of your pictures. There are couple of storage solutions available that don't depend on computers to work.
yours ZB.
