outlook express
I am running Windows XP and using Outlook Express 6 for email. When my computer has been on for say, over 12 hours...Outlook will not start up for me. I have to turn the computer off.
Maybe OE just sucks, that is what I would like to believe. Is there another good email prog. I should be using? I am using Mozilla 1.2a, but whenever I set up a email account on there...I can send but can't receive mail. I am pretty sure I set the account up right because I can send mail with it. any suggestions? |

OE is a HUGE security hole in your system. pick something else, ANYTHING else. please?
sending and recieving mail are completely unrelated, by the way. your incoming mail server will be something like pop.sbcglobal.net or mail.mac.com your outgoing mail will be something like smtp.mac.com or smtp.sbclogbal.net (those are the servers for my accts). so: if you've got your incoming server set, but not your outgoing one, your mail will come but not go. check w/ your mail provider and be sure that you have the correct servers. as for e-mail clients, I set my mom up on eudora, but she switched back to using the web-based client that her ISP provides. I use mail.app on my mac, so... :/ not gonna be a whole lot of help in that area. sorry. |

I've heard good things about Eudora, but when I was on a PC, I used Outlook XP - a bit nicer than OE. Like cheerios, I use mail.app on Mac OS X, so I'm not terribly up to date with the best email clients on windows. At work we use Lotus Notes. Blech.

You might want to go into task manager (right-click on that long bar containing the start-button, click "task manager"), go to the second tab ("processes"), scroll down to "OUTLOOK", and end it. No more reboots needed. (Oh, and kids: don't try this at home. You might make the system temporarily unusable. Rebooting will solve that, so no permanent damage will be done. I hope.) (/geek mode) |
