USB HDD thinks it's USB 1.1
Greetings,
I have this USB HDD that lately convinced itself that it was no longer USB 2.0 but USB 1.1. So now I get this message, "...device can perform better..", when I connect it to a computer. I have ruled out that it's computer or OS related as I have tested the drive on different computers running different versions of Windows. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it, before I trash it. It's not an issue of data retrieval as the data is available else where. Yours ZB. |
Have you tried a different enclosure and different USB cable?

This is still in the unexplained category. Last time I plugged it in then it worked like it is supposed to.
But I think it's time to request a replacement. Yours ZB. |
Fun related story, when I'm booted to windows my usb 2.0 thumb drive gets plugged into a 1.x port. I don't have any 2.0 ports. Despite this I still get that same "This device can perform faster..." message. When I click it it takes me to my hardware profile page which kindly informs me that actually I don't have any USB 2.0 ports (which I already knew). Makes me want to stab windows in the eyes.
