Yea! for xs4all.nl

I'm so happy with my ISP.
They are one of the world's best, I believe.

I was paying 55 Euros/month for fast service but saw a notice that I could ask for a new service for no extra charge that would be twice as fast.
I could not find anything wrong with the offer so filled out the online form.
The next morning - 9am - the new Fritzbox 7340 arrived at my door. No charge. About a week later, today, I find myself download from Rapidshare.com at 3.5 to 4.2 megabytes a second. My upload speed is listed as being 3 times faster than before. Have not used it yet.

I also use this ISP for telephone. 5 Euros a month!
Screen shot of DSL info attached.

yep. that's what i thought.
Don't know what to make of the "forward error correction".
Speed is good and the line is not dropping so no "biggie" I guess.

Hey! I see you just joined the forum. So welcome :-)
It may be useful to know where you are located, in general terms.
This might be one of those times.

FEC are corrected errors on the line. A large number results from a lot of noise on your line. DSL is very distance sensitive, and the sensitivity increases as the throughput goes up.

Your SNR is marginal. You don't have a ton of uncorrected errors on your line now, but this could be an issue going forward, especially when the weather gets bad in the winter. You may need to reduce the line profile (read: slow things down) to achieve a stable connection.

Note that your current attainable throughput is less than the maximum rate supported by the DSLAM. This may mean that if you can clean things up you can get even more speed, but that would be up to your ISP. It's worrying that your current rate is identical to your max attainable -- 100% occupancy leaves you with nowhere to go in the event of signal degradation.

Alternatively you might attempt to clean up the wiring. Your attenuation doesn't indicate an excessively long loop, so it's probable that either your internal wiring or the drop is sub-par. I don't know how things work over there for this -- in Canada, the phone company is responsible for everything up to the point of demarcation, while the subscriber is responsible for all wiring inside the home. Things might be different where you are though, as it would be subject to local regulations.

If you can, connect your DSL modem directly to the demarc and repeat the test. This will help to narrow down where the source of the trouble is.

thanks for the welcome.
i can think of a lot of sad terms to describe where i am (trapped in my mind, forgotten about, suffering with constant depression) but... nah i'm in the UK.

sorry.. i know you only asked.

i've had a really tough day as it is and it's only 10 in the morning.

tell me about your country

i've never been there but would like to.

Thank you, Martian. The basic wiring should be fine. I used the old line splitters.
I should replace them with the new ones. The filters may be different. That certainly would explain things :-)
Installed the new splitter. I'll have to wait a few hours and DL some things to compare the data. Already the speed is a little better. Noise figure & attenuation is the same.

sweet release, jump the pond and take a look around when you have a little cash to burn and a friend who is interested. In the big cities most people speak English.

All of my Dutch cousins over 15 speak English, and when I was over there visiting them, everyone else I ran into while out and about wanted to speak English with me the moment they heard my American voice.I was watching a Rick Steves video not long ago where he said the only thing you need to know in Dutch is "dank u wel"--thank you. It's about the only thing I said in Dutch while there.

And yes, sweet, I've been totally envious of flat5 for a while now. The Netherlands is an awesome country.

I moved from California (USA) to Amsterdam in 1983. Never been back.
I guess I notice the people who don't/won't speak English. I don't know what percentage that would be. Mostly I had to deal with musicians. Only a very few could not understand me.

What I miss about the USA: cottage cheese, buttermilk, (don't tell me the Dutch have the same thing), Sarah Lee Cheese Cake. That and the weather is all I can think of.

Oh...Forward Error Correction: 1699967
much better so far.

The smiley at the end of my statement means I'm not serious.
In fact, I was trying to make a joke. It's one of my bad habits.
I was alluding to a song title.
