MP3 library software ?
Can anyone tell me if there is a software title for Windows that allows me to maintain MP3 libraries for my MP3 players.
Thing is, I want to manage both my player, and my wife's on the same computer, and we have completely different albums and playlists etc. Media Player only seems to be able to handle one library (unless I'm missing how to have two). We both have Sansa players (if that helps). Thanks ---------- Post added at 09:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:33 AM ---------- Open source/free would be great ! :-) |
iTunes is free, but not open source. You can have two libraries, I think you hold down alt-option at startup to choose the new library. Or, you can set up two user accounts in Windows.

Thanks - I guess the second Windows logon would be pretty easy. Never thought of it.

Try Media Monkey?

Thanks for the suggestions. I DL and installed mediamonkey, but I can't "trial" the multiple library feature without spending the $$. Looks nice as it is though.

I'm mostly happy with iTunes (it's a bit heavy and the archiving thing can be troublesome). Having tried it on Windows, it seems to work just fine.

iTunes is terrible. Terrible.
I use Winamp Library, but I don't work with my files the same way you might. |
Could you please explain why you need the "multi-library" functionality? Wouldn't having separate playlists be enough?
|
Rick - good suggestion. Separate playlists might just be all I need. Can I send a group of playlists (and their files) to my wifes player, and a different set of playlists (and files) to mine ? She uses her player for work, and has tons of educational songs on it, I use mine to listen to my fav tunes.
I don't want her files on mine, and visa versa. |

Thanks RickB, I had been intending to look for alternative to MediaPlayer for maintaining content on my iRiver. Songbird looks good will give it a try.

If you have zero overlap in songs between your two players, I'd use separate libraries just to keep it simple. If you have a bunch of overlap, separate playlists would probably be better for your hard drive space.
