Ubuntu and Windows Apps
Well. I switched my personal computer over to Ubuntu a few months ago. I posted about it a little bit on here.
Well I am really starting to like it better than windows. And I was thinking about switching my work computer over also. Ubuntu will do everything that my work computer uses but Autocad. I don't really want to try and make Autocad work on Ubuntu thru Wine. It just doesn't sound fun or like it would perform well. So I was thinking about running a remote app of Autocad thru my server. I would like to just open the app in Ubuntu. But so far I have not had any luck finding software to do remote App under linux. I found some that said it would work but never got it to work. Application publishing: 2X ApplicationServer for Windows Terminal Services That is what I tried so far without having any luck. My server is Windows 2008 server. And I want to open the app in Ubuntu 9.04. Any advise if this is possible or should I just stick with windows. I am either going to upgrade my Windows or goes linux if I can.

I switched my parents to Ubuntu a while ago, but they still need a windows installation to run their accounting software on. What we did was install the accounting software on a windows server, then they accessed it through remote desktop from their ubuntu box and ran it remote. Has worked like a charm.
All we did was to enable remote desktop for their users on the windows box, installed tsclient (Terminal Server Client [tsclient] | Get Terminal Server Client [tsclient] at SourceForge.net) on the Ubuntu box and having them connect through tsclient to the windows box with their windows accounts. Not the fanciest solution perhaps, but it works. Maybe you want to give it a try.

You should be able to do the same exact thing. But instead of running a complete remote desktop just run a remote app. I do it alot with windows but I am having trouble getting it to work on ubuntu. You can do it with windows server and 2x linux's software. But I keep getting a error.
It runs perfectly and act just like its on the computer its running off of. I have a feeling its erroring out because I never setup TS license for my windows SBS 2008. Mostly because I plan to switch it all over to Windows Standard server 2008. Because it supports Terminal Server and SBS does not support it. When I run it thru windows it runs fine without a TS license for each client. It tells me it wont but been running afew months without any issues. Just have not had the downtime to be able to redo everything. I am thinking about buying 2 new HD's to redo everything so I can take it a few days at a time.
