MIE 8

After upgraded to MIE 8, IE sometimes hangs up (blank screen) when accessing webpages - not any one site in particular. Sometimes this even happens when I open a new tab for browsing. None of the control buttons will work, its froze. I'll close the screen and it will say its stopped responding and asks if I want to cancel the program. I do and it prompts me to send an error report to MS. Could there be an option that I need to reset? I use the MS firewall and the other PC on my home network works just fine (also on MIE 8).

About the only fix is to restart Windows (XP)

Any ideas?

Switch to Opera/Chrome/Firefox? (sorry, I am of no help with your IE problem, I haven't used IE in 8 years)

Me either. All FF here.

You could try downloading the network install and reinstall IE.
You could also try running in safe mode/no addon mode and see if it helps. If it does, then see what could be installed that is causing the issue.

This is the inherent problem with IE - it is too deep in the OS. I can take my FF install, copy it to a USB drive and run it from there with only a couple of text file edits. In the meantime IE takes down the whole system because some ad banner had a trojan embedded in it.

OK, Then why is FF a resource hog?? The fucker consumes at least 122,000 K of my RAM ... I have 2GB but with more than 40K always slows down the PC.

I dunno, I only use firefox on my Netbook because it is preinstalled, and it's running Ubuntu. Everywhere else is Chrome...before Chrome, Opera.

Check this article about plugging memory leaks in Firefox:
