Microsoft Office question

If you buy Office which we did, with a new laptop how many pc's in your home can you load them on? I loaded it on my two and it works great but daughter never registered on her laptop and now it won't let her.

I think, unless you have a multi-PC license, you are restricted to one PC.

I was able to load it onto one desktop and one laptop, when I tried the second laptop, it wouldn't let us. Maybe two is the limit?

it depends on the version. All the standard, business, professional, ultimate and others are 1 licence. The Home and Student versions are for three PCs. if you look on the back of your copy, it will tell you this.

Found this @Microsoft - "Office Home and Student 2007 Retail License Terms allow for installation on three devices. OEM License Terms limit the installation to the device on which the software was pre-installed." I'm not sure I understand what OEM means? We have an actual disk? It came loaded on the laptop and worked, a few months latter it asked for the key and she was denied. I'm confused.

If it was preinstalled, it was probably just a trial. you should remove it and reinstall with the proper disc. what brand of computer is it? from everywhere I've seen, you have to pay extra for this program. If it came free, i'd be worried.

It's an HP laptop and we paid for MS Office additionally.

I also recently purchased a student edition of Office and installed it on 2 devices. The materials with the software said that it was good for 3 installations, but I haven't gotten around to the third installation. I will try it in the next day or two and report back whether I had any problems.

then you should be fine. But the fact it wasn't activated worries me. Was it purchased from a store or direct from HP? Eitherway, you should still have 3 install available. :)

This stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. In this kind of case it is Office (or whatever software) supplied bundled with the PC when first purchased. You usually get Office cheaper this way, rather than buying it separately.

Even though you paid an upcharge for it, if it came with the laptop it is still (most likely) an OEM license. Which limits it to the PC it was purchased with (legally speaking).
