AT&T Broadband to Comcast conversion problem
Today Comcast notified me that I would have to change all of my settings from xxx.attbi.xxx to xxx.comcast.xxx in my email, newsgroup, etc. programs. I used the little wizard program that does the automatic conversion, but it only updated MS programs. I use Forte's Free Agent program for newsgroups (cuz it automatically compiles binary attachments), and even though I put all the same settings in, it still fails to recognize the comcast news server.
Any suggestions? the comcast server doesn't require a login or authorization. |
yikes, no help?

I just rebuilt my system, and I am just about to reinstal my Newgroup client. I will let you know what I find. BTW I was also moved over to comcast.

Comcast's news server is weird--I finally got it set up, it's not actually Comcast's news server. They provide news through a company called Giganews or something like that. You can go to comcast.net, sign in and there's a link in members services to sign up for the news service.

My experience with comcast only leads to the suggestion of dropping it and getting broadband from someone else. I spent more time with no connection than with, and their answer was we are working on it (over 2 years of this).

I heard that with netnews.comcast.net the download limit will be 1GB/month.
Of course it's better than what I get which is no access at all. I have to pay for USENET. |
Yeah, the download limit is 1GB and upload is 2GB. I've heard you can request more if that's no enough, but I don't really use binary newsgroups so I haven't tried to do it. They might charge you for it, I don't know.
