Explore bar been hi-jacked

I downloaded a game and installed it and it changed a hole bunch of settings on my PC. Up in the top of internet explore, where it says the name of the web site like(Tilted Forum Project) it now says some thing after the name of the web site your on. does anyone know how to change it back, becuse it says !!!GAYSEX IS GREAT !!! after the web site. I realy don't like that! i know that their a program that can fix this, I just can't seem to think of it.

it's a key in the registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

look around in there. i could have sworn it was in there, but it's not there now. maybe it's on your pc

Do not go into your registry, like TheDude said. Especially if you have not have had any experience in there. You can really screw up your computer if you do that. Additionally, you should never recommend someone to edit the registry, without knowing what the skill/experience level of the person needing help is. A person with limited knowledge should stay as far away from the registry as possible.

You can try running Ad-aware or Spybot (you can search the forum for threads on these), to see if they turn up anything. Alternatively, you can run RegCleaner (Also somewhere on TFP) to see what changes were made when you installed the game. I assume the game you installed was not out of the box, so there is probably no documentation on this problem. Uninstall the game, check to see if the browser is better. If not, run RegCleaner, and delete all the keys that stem from the game that was installed.

Author = game manufacterer, developer, company
Title = Title of the game.

This may or may not help you, but it is worth a shot.

Also I would check the startup web page under the internet properties. Some times a program will change you startup page and you may not notice. Good Luck.

If you are in 95/98/ME, you can use tweak revisited.

Thanks for the help, I did a search in regedit for the word "gay" and found the string and delete it.

Download SpybotSD from http://security.kolla.de/ that should get rid of all the explorer hijacks and all other spyware associated stuff.

What game was it?

dolemite175 06-30-2003 07:20 PM

You definatly need to do a check for Spyware, who knows what else the game left on your system. Uninstalling it, running adaware and spybot would not be a bad idea.
