Silencing Fans?
i have my own pc, but i have a lil problem w/ the fans (case fans).
they're hooked directly to the power supply as the wires didnt reach the mobo (i got 3 case fans and only 1 mobo spot for them). the proc fans however goes to mobo. anyway, here's the problem. when i put the pc on standby, the fans still run. and the lights on the fan still go. it kinda gets annoying when i'm trying to sleep. what can i do? i've heard of fan controllers, anyone have any experience w/ them?? how about their price? & i gotta make sure that the fan wires reach this too. |
I'm guessing you have LED fans in your case... Those lights don't go out until the LED's go bad. Nothing you can do that I know of about that.
All of my fans run on my fan controller. I can't turn the fans off, but you can turn them down really low when you sleep to lower the noise a bit. I have this one. It has LED's that surround the knobs that never turn off so I doubt you'd want something like that. You don't want your fans to turn off dude |
This might work for you if noise is the main problem, but it won't turn off the LEDs, unfortunately.
A 12V/7V/off baybus is another option, albeit more expensive; I built my own sometime ago using this guide as a reference. |

Ig the system is going to "standby" and the noise is annoying, why not shut the system down completely and reboot when you wake up? Just suggesting an option. |
i would just get extension wires so they can plug into the mobo.

can you get some kinda adapter that will let u put 3 fans into the mobo? (mobo has 1 slot)

turn off your computer, use the house air conditioning instead

A fan controller sounds really useful.

Buy sound insulating material for your case....i have seen it on a few sites..... or you could get stealth fans....they are quiet as hell....

The surest way I know of to silence fans
is to strike out swinging for the third out, leaving the bases loaded. Especially late in a close game. [ducks, covers head] |
LOL @ twototango
anyway, i think i'll get the fan speed controller |
Get a quality rheobus like a Sunbeam, generic ones can be shite.
|
all good advice, i just wish i had some
|
Its awefully easy to build a nice looking fanbus if you are at all comfortable with a bit of soldering (sp?). if you, or anyone else for that matter, is interested PM me and I will dig up some links with diagrams and walkthroughs. Mine cost me a whopping hours of time making it look good and about 6 dollars in parts.
I have all my case fans on different switches which is a godsend for the reasons you mention above. |
Don't plug them all into the mobo, Dude. The mobo can only put out so much current before you fuck something up pretty bad. A lot of high-powered fans even come with warnings not to plug them into the mobo. Go with the fan controlled sixate suggested, or something similar.
