Computer stuck in num lock
Some reason I have a computer stuck in num lock. It has a keyboard attached to it that is only the number pad and the direction keys. And when you turn it on the direction keys dont work.
To get them to work I half to hook a normal keyboard up and hit num lock and then hook the old keyboard up and everything is great. Any idea how to resolve this issue. When I reset I half to do this ever time. Thanks Eric, |
You might try checking the bios to see if there's an option to turn off numlock.

went threw bios and could not find a num lock setting anywhere.

Try this:

Which OS are you running? If you're in XP there are several registry keys that could cause num lock to get stuck in the on position.
|
Running dos 6.22
Actually I was wrong. The computer turns on with default num lock off. And I need it to be on. I emailed shuttle to see if i can change bios somehow and fix this. |
add
NUMLOCK=ON to config.sys |
I cant find a file named config.sys.

There is a config.sys but its in a folder called PR010. And I thought folder was for the software im running on this computer not dos.
Here is the contents of Config.sys. BUFFERS=15,0 FILES=50 LASTDRIVE=Z FCBS=16,0 DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS I=B000-B7FF X=C800-D0FF DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE DOS=HIGH,UMB COUNTRY=049,437,C:\DOS\COUNTRY.SYS devicehigh=c:\dos\ansi.sys shell=c:\dos\command.com c:\dos\ /e:1024 /p Is this the right file and where do i add the NUMLOCK=ON Well I added NUMLOCK=ON to the middle of that file and tried it. didnt change anything. Still had to hit the numlock button when it turned on so I could use the number keys Any ideas? |
It (config.sys) needs to be in the root directory of the C drive (i.e. c:\config.sys). If you don't have one then you should be able to create one... (or you could copy the one you have in that other directory (though it might cause unexpected things if you didn't have one before).
This file is read and executed sequentially - you should be able to add the line anywhere in the file. |
Thanks for the help guys. Some reason when I put the hard drive in my desktop and looked for config.sys it wasnt there. But when I left it in its own computer and just used dos to edit the file it was there. Added the numlock=on and wala good as new.
Thanks for the help. |
you're welcome.
