PS3 and Media Converters.
hey guys, I recently got a PS3 and I have it hooked up to my flatscreen in the basement. I have the Satalite upstairs but no receiver for downstairs so we are making it the "movie/gaming room". Problem is, I have a lot of .avi and .divx files on my laptop and the PS3 only supports mpeg Does anyone know of any freeware that converts those, and is very simple to use so I can watch burn them? Thanks

I'm always weary of just googling. I was hoping someone would have a trusted program that they know is great.
Also I have a macbook so I can't download .exe. Still looking for advice.

There's so many media converters out there and most are trash. Not sure what you need but it being a mac will make it a bit harder. |

gom encoder works wonders, converts anything to anything, and it is currently free

The next update (or the one after, not sure) will make PS3 compatible with DivX, so there will be no need for converters.

I don't have (and haven't had) divx/xvid content now for 2 years, it's all HD and x264. So divx/xvid support is pretty much a moot point for me and other ps3 owners I know.
PS3 doesn't play but a few specific profiles of h264 spec so converter is still needed. Fortunately Video9 can thru pass-thru 'encoding' so quality is not lost.
