Firefox proxy help
I have been using Firefox for years and I love it. I just started a graduate program by distance learning, and I need to set up a proxy server to access research materials online. I only want to use the proxy for that, not for general browsing. Do I need to install a second browser for the proxy? Can I install Firefox twice in one computer for this purpose? How do I do this? I can't find any info online about this, so I'm not optimistic, but any advice would be appreciated! Thanks gurus! Oh, BTW WinXP Pro, Firefox 2.0.0.6.
There's nothing like answering your own question! I found a Firefox plugin called FoxyProxy that seems to be the no proxy/proxy/multiple proxies switching king. I figured out how to use it in about 30 minutes, and I have next to no clue about proxies.

also, using a portable version of firefox would allow you to run a separate instance of firefox, you can run it from your HD or a USB drive, i carry it around on my thumbdrive incase if i need to log into something on someone elses computer, without worrying about their security settings and privacy settings like remember password options

I'm using the portable version with my proxies in place so I can surf my school's library and Google Scholar from work (or where ever) without having to reconfigure their system. I have it on a clip drive. It really is awesome for not having to worry about the system you're on. I'm actually using the academic version of Firefox with the Zotero plugin as well. If they had this when I was an undergrad... of course when I was an undergrad the Apple 2C was the state of the art....
