Which is best: Cable or Dish?
I recently had Comcast cable installed and got
high speed internet ,70 TV channels and phone services. The phone and internet are fine but the TV has about 10 or 12 channels that have lines or just do not respond well enought to watch. One or two go completely "Blue screen" while watching. We are told that soon Comcast will raise the cost 6%. I am ready to have this system removed and have AT&T install one of their systems. What is better....cable or Dish antenna installation? (On wet or overcast days here....most of my TV channels are very un-sharp or fuzzy looking but I've heard that Dish TV has bad weather viewing also.) |

I use Dish Network, and I've never been displeased. Only on the rarest of days will I lose the connection, and it's only for a few minutes. It's fine during storms, though we don't get many lightning storms in the San Francisco Bay area.

I have Dish Network also. Switched from Cox Cable about a year ago and thus far pretty happy with it. I get more channels for less than I was paying for cable and the picture quality is much better.
Like the previous post, we rarely drop the signal and when we do, only for a very short time. And I'm in the midwest thunderstorm/tornado seating section.

Direct TV is where it is at in my opinion, but any satellite company is better than cable. I never get any connection problems (unless the weather is extremely bad) and it's 100% digital unlike cable. Dish also has better HD stuff, if you have the television for it.
The thing I would recommend though, is to keep the cable internet because it's much better than DSL. We were in the same situation, got cable internet and tv along with it. the tv was horrible so we canceled the tv portion of our service and got satellite.

DirecTV is way better than cable. I just can't see why everyone wouldn't get satellite. I pay at least $15 less a month than most of my friends and have 100 more channels. Plus I've got The Big Ten Network, and had a bunch of friends over this weekend to watch my Wolverines have their asses handed to them. They're still laughing at me today.
I did miss cable internet until recently. I moved and my new DSL provider is almost as good as cable, and I pay half as much as I was. |

I currently have Suddenlink (part of Cox's network that SL bought) for internet and Dish Network for television.
For just the television I wanted and the DVR for it, cable was going to cost me an extra $20 per month over Dish AND I get 60 more channels with Dish (good ones actually). Plus with Dish, you get a lot of music channels and the Sirius radio stations included in the package.

I went to DirecTV from Time Warner about a year ago, and I've been happy. Their DVR is WAY better than the piece of crap Time Warner deploys. I only very rarely lose signal--although brief digital hiccups are somewhat more common.
I've been quite happy with my DSL, too. It's the highest level of "business" line, and runs about three times as fast as my cable internet service used to. |

I prefer cable. Most providers offer a discount if you get TV and internet. Cox and Comcast both have a decent selection of digital and HD content. Cable internet is far superior, especially in latency, to DSL. I've had too many issues with sat tv regarding weather and such. My cable has almost never gone out (either with Comcast or Cox) but maybe once or twice a year. *shrug*

We dropped our cable in June for Dish and DSL, for both cost and the rotten attitudes of the people at Cablevision.
There's no discernable difference in speed on my pc, but my son swears it's slower on his(then again, he'll be gaming, reading forums and chatting while having music playing-all at the same time). I mostly just do IM Bingo(have a few IM's going at once). Basic cable vs basic satellite was no comparison in cost. As a new customer to Dish, we also got a 3 month trial of all HBO, all Showtime and TMC; we've decided to keep them for the time being. DSL is $10 cheaper per month, basic satellite also $10 cheaper and twice as many channels, which, to me, means twice as long to channel surf befor deciding there's nothing worth watching.

I've had Dish for a couple of years now and I couldn't be happier.
I've recently upgraded to the HD package and even with the initial upfront fee for the DVR, it's still cheaper in the long run than the comparable package from the local cable company. Now, it will go out. Not all the time, but there are occassions where if a particularly nasty storm is heading our way, it will go out, but never for very long. For the most part, it's a champ.
