Go to the device manager and uninstall your sound card hardware, then right click the sound, video and game controllers and click scan for hardware changes. Then reinstall the software. Make Sense???

Tried it, doesn't work. It just keeps saying it isn't there.
My thoughts are I was online during a storm and maybe somehow the sound card got fried.

Thats possible, check all your connections, cut the power and open the case and make sure the card is properly seated. If the device manager says its not there, it may be fried. Exhaust all possibilities before tossing it. Sometimes its something simple like a loose connection, Good Luck.
You did try to scan for hardware changes with the device manager???
