Adobe Photoshop - Academic version
I'm in the market for AP CS3 and I'm wondering if there's any downside to buying an academic version. Perhaps it's non-upgradeable when a new version comes out?
Thanks!

Most academic versions are the same as "regular" versions. Some companies don't allow you to get the upgrade pricing on academic versions; they track the serial number so that you can't get the upgrade. Sometimes it's cheaper just to buy another academic version rather than upgrade anyway. I'm not sure about Adobe products with regard to upgrades.
--also-- You are NOT supposed to sell anything you create with academic versions of software. You are supposed to upgrade to a non-academic version when you are no longer a student or faculty. |

Yea, that's the biggest limitation on "academic" versions of software. If you sell anything made with that version, they can sue you (presuming they could determine it was made with the academic version).
