best p2p/filesharing device
hey. wat're the best p2p progs (kazaa,winmx,morpheous,etc.) for sharing mp3s, software, movies, etc?
currently, i use kazaa for everything. suggestions? |
i use kazaa too, but there is too many fake shit on there.
i'm thinking about moving on. |
Morpheous is loaded with spy ware - i canned it
KaZaa lite werks for me... WinMX werks as well... but ya might be a while to get a whole flik I try to find one that doesn't bog me down too long & resumes where you left off when you re-log... as for advice - if I right click on a user that's loading off me & I see something I'd like, I try to be VERY polite when I ask if they'd mind sharing |
DC/DC++ -- direct connect/direct connect ++
i think they run on the same nap clients as napster did, but it's a whole online sharing community and stuff. lots of rave over it. i don't use it cuz lots of the good servers require like 10 gigs of shared stuff. i don't like keeping stuff on my hard drive that long so doesn't work for me. but give it a looksy, you might like it. |
FTP :D
kazaa lite for small, media like file.
edonkey for software and games... awesome! |
I have to go with SiN here. Nothing Beats a good private FTP.
I use DC++ for all my file-sharing. It's the best I’ve found so far, open source, versatile, and more total shared files than any other program. It helps if you have a large amount to share though, since it gets you into the good hubs.
Kazaa Lite still works well enough for me.
Hey Kiaphas, what's this SiN thing about? I suppose I could google it, but I'd rather hear it from someone who uses it. |
tinfoil
He's referring to SiN's post two above his. |
I use eMule and BitTorrent the most.
Shareaza
For music, slsk and WinMX. For movies and apps, bearshare

DC++
The fact that a lot of a larger rooms have limits on mimimum file sharing amounts works as a great filter. The quality of the results in the searches just shows how much above the more "common" file sharing programs it is. But then again, it is geared more towards those with large amounts of things to share in the first place. So in a sense is a catch 22 situation. You need large amounts of good quality material to get access to other large amounts of good quality material. |
Bit torrent is all I use. Why wait in queues?
bit torrent is good, so are newsgroups, only problem with newsgroups is that you have a pay a small fee for a good server.
Bit Torrent all the way.
Kazaa Lite is pretty good for music but I usually steer clear of it now for anything else.
eMule is great for selection but the speed is horrid. I've just started checking out Bit Torrent and so far I like it, I'm just having trouble finding links. |
great. thanks,guys!
Hmmm I used to use kazaalite but now I use filetopia and love it.
What about for Linux?
where can one find ftp servers?
Try imesh, it works good and is fast but the spyware in the new download is bad ! Good Luck
Can someone answer a question about using DC++? All the hubs I try to connect to tell me to open a certain # of slots, but I am clueless as to how I cando this. Any help? Thanks.
Heh, No worries.
I always found the best results by going thrue some IRC channel and getting private FTPS. |

go here 4 all your linux p2p needs.......... zeropaid = and 4 windows..... i use MIRC c\w the invision script + xdcc ripper.......... |
edonkey and direct connect for applications and games.
I don't have either installed, because i don't steal software and the games i play are online, however if need be i'd use those for that. Musak though www.slsk.org The program is called SoulSeek Its a really great for underground music especially. |
I use soulseek as well, even though you have to wait in queues, there are so many files you can usually find a user that isnt busy. also cool about soulseek is that you can get whole cd's. Being a music buff, i really like that, especially with music that is usually hard to find (groups on independent labels and such). I reccomend it wholeheartedly. peace
I use emule and usenet, and no i dont pay for it i use my comcast/at&t server which suits me fine, yeah it only has a day retention if that on the popular groups but hey you get what you pay for.
Also emule is a set and let go program, I have a dedicated box for it and just let it go throwing more at it when it needs more. |

i use irc for movies and DC++ for music
Acquisition for Mac.
irc and imesh lite
Call me out of date, but I still use WinMX and I never have a problem finding what I'm looking for.
Soulseek all day long. Where else can I find all the Me First and The Gimme Gimmes? :D
DC is fairly good as long as you find a private server with a lot of content. Otherwise, I'm inclined to side with SiN. Private FTP servers are the way to go.
damnit, nobody's mentioned Blubster. It has one little banner ad on the top, and no pop ups. the only CON is that it only lets you share music, but it rapes everyone else in that dept. it lets you preview the files better than kazaa, and doesn't infiltrate your computer with millions of programs. Music - Blubster, Software..., Kazaa.
I use eMule, well I'm trying to use it that is, and Kazaa
IRC and FTPs are my filesharing protocols of choice :D
Bit Torrent and DC++ hands down.
i luv bit torrent
Kazaa++ is definitally my favorite p2p app. I use eDonkey if i can't find a file im looking for on kazaa
I like overnet, too bad it is hell to work with my router because it will randomly say I'm open or firewalled even though I don't change my router settings at all.
I use Soulseek, BT and Kazaa Lite K++ all work very well.
qpid, you NEED BT++.
Overnet and Emule plus for movies. Kazaa Lite just for mp3s
I went through most of them. But I now stay clear of all the spyware shit like Kazaa and Morpheus.
My favourites are: 1. WinMX - use it the most. Good for MP3 and ok for movies and sw. 2. Shareaza - A new really advanced and good looking program that connects to several different networks. Has great potential. 3. Kazaa Light - use it sometimes but don't really need it. 4. Direct Connect - The ultimate underground network I guess, but it is complicated and full of brats not letting you into their sub culture. Looks alot like a web of BBS:es. Here you can get anything if you become friends with them. You dl only from 1 user. Something I have heard though is that it helps to be connected for longer periods. You should'nt log in and search and log out if you don't like the result. Keep it active for a day or two and the searches will improve. If you're on a modem you should'nt do this anyway. |
I dont know if its already been mentioned.. but the RIAA is starting to hit individuals and pretty hard... So I wouldnt recommend using anything popular such as KaZaA... theres a list of KaZaA users the RIAA is currently after on www.techtv.com just search for "RIAA hitlist" and you should find it. I dont think WinMX is too popular.... thats what I use when I need mp3s... I use Direct Connect/Direct Connect ++ for anything else. Ive heard lots of good things about bit torrent, but I havent checked it out yet
bit torrent is best i've seen in a while...as long as people share.
Well i am not going to use eMule ever again as I got a DCMA warning sent to my isp, oh well it was fun while it lasted, looks like ill go back to DC and see how it has evolved in the last 6 months.
kazaa lite, because bit torrent is very unsafe.
bittorrent!! hands down.
DC++ is a good one if you can find reliable hubs.
I personally like SoulSeek - which is kind of small, but you can find some really good music floating out there. |
DC ++, fo sho
Hey Fearless, why do you say Bit Torrent is not safe?
