best p2p/filesharing device

hey. wat're the best p2p progs (kazaa, winmx, morpheous, etc.) for sharing mp3s, software, movies, etc?

currently, i use kazaa for everything. suggestions?

The_Dude 06-13-2003 11:20 AM

i use kazaa too, but there is too many fake shit on there.

i'm thinking about moving on.

Hanxter 06-13-2003 11:28 AM

Morpheous is loaded with spy ware - i canned it
KaZaa lite werks for me...
WinMX werks as well... but ya might be a while to get a whole flik

I try to find one that doesn't bog me down too long & resumes where you left off when you re-log...

as for advice - if I right click on a user that's loading off me & I see something I'd like, I try to be VERY polite when I ask if they'd mind sharing

slant eyes 06-13-2003 11:51 AM

DC/DC++ -- direct connect/direct connect ++

i think they run on the same nap clients as napster did, but it's a whole online sharing community and stuff. lots of rave over it. i don't use it cuz lots of the good servers require like 10 gigs of shared stuff. i don't like keeping stuff on my hard drive that long so doesn't work for me. but give it a looksy, you might like it.

SiN 06-13-2003 12:05 PM

FTP :D

viveleroi0 06-13-2003 02:40 PM

kazaa lite for small, media like file.

edonkey for software and games... awesome!

Kiaphas 06-13-2003 03:15 PM

I have to go with SiN here. Nothing Beats a good private FTP.

Scorpion23 06-13-2003 07:12 PM

I use DC++ for all my file-sharing. It's the best I’ve found so far, open source, versatile, and more total shared files than any other program. It helps if you have a large amount to share though, since it gets you into the good hubs.

tinfoil 06-13-2003 07:16 PM

Kazaa Lite still works well enough for me.

Hey Kiaphas, what's this SiN thing about? I suppose I could google it, but I'd rather hear it from someone who uses it.

Jeff 06-13-2003 08:19 PM

tinfoil
He's referring to SiN's post two above his.

bob32 06-13-2003 08:49 PM

I use eMule and BitTorrent the most.

nine 06-14-2003 03:33 AM

Shareaza

X_cody_X 06-14-2003 04:57 AM

For music, slsk and WinMX. For movies and apps, bearshare

Ack.. Damn that was hoopid of me.

tracer-bullet 06-14-2003 09:51 AM

DC++

The fact that a lot of a larger rooms have limits on mimimum file sharing amounts works as a great filter. The quality of the results in the searches just shows how much above the more "common" file sharing programs it is. But then again, it is geared more towards those with large amounts of things to share in the first place. So in a sense is a catch 22 situation. You need large amounts of good quality material to get access to other large amounts of good quality material.

Jesus Pimp 06-14-2003 04:58 PM

Bit torrent is all I use. Why wait in queues?

powercheech 06-14-2003 09:58 PM

bit torrent is good, so are newsgroups, only problem with newsgroups is that you have a pay a small fee for a good server.

Freakasaurus 06-14-2003 11:21 PM

Bit Torrent all the way.

VirFighter 06-15-2003 07:09 AM

Kazaa Lite is pretty good for music but I usually steer clear of it now for anything else.

eMule is great for selection but the speed is horrid.

I've just started checking out Bit Torrent and so far I like it, I'm just having trouble finding links.

illdeviant 06-15-2003 08:50 AM

great. thanks,guys!

trialzin 06-16-2003 05:39 PM

Hmmm I used to use kazaalite but now I use filetopia and love it.

mathmo 06-17-2003 02:28 AM

What about for Linux?

pancakerabbit 06-17-2003 05:07 AM

where can one find ftp servers?

BUDD206 06-17-2003 06:26 AM

Try imesh, it works good and is fast but the spyware in the new download is bad ! Good Luck

Unknown Poster 06-17-2003 10:20 AM

Can someone answer a question about using DC++? All the hubs I try to connect to tell me to open a certain # of slots, but I am clueless as to how I cando this. Any help? Thanks.

Kiaphas 06-17-2003 01:40 PM

Heh, No worries.

I always found the best results by going thrue some IRC channel and getting private FTPS.

edonkey and direct connect for applications and games.

I don't have either installed, because i don't steal software and the games i play are online, however if need be i'd use those for that.

Musak though

www.slsk.org

The program is called SoulSeek

Its a really great for underground music especially.

costello 07-30-2003 01:43 AM

I use soulseek as well, even though you have to wait in queues, there are so many files you can usually find a user that isnt busy. also cool about soulseek is that you can get whole cd's. Being a music buff, i really like that, especially with music that is usually hard to find (groups on independent labels and such). I reccomend it wholeheartedly. peace

tronims 07-30-2003 07:41 PM

I use emule and usenet, and no i dont pay for it i use my comcast/at&t server which suits me fine, yeah it only has a day retention if that on the popular groups but hey you get what you pay for.

Also emule is a set and let go program, I have a dedicated box for it and just let it go throwing more at it when it needs more.

sky33 07-30-2003 10:12 PM

i use irc for movies and DC++ for music

drawerfixer 07-31-2003 12:41 PM

Acquisition for Mac.

zero2 07-31-2003 05:57 PM

irc and imesh lite

jibs 08-01-2003 12:25 AM

Call me out of date, but I still use WinMX and I never have a problem finding what I'm looking for.

cliffxpro 08-01-2003 01:08 PM

Soulseek all day long. Where else can I find all the Me First and The Gimme Gimmes? :D

Pragma 08-01-2003 04:23 PM

DC is fairly good as long as you find a private server with a lot of content. Otherwise, I'm inclined to side with SiN. Private FTP servers are the way to go.

SiphonX 08-01-2003 05:28 PM

damnit, nobody's mentioned Blubster. It has one little banner ad on the top, and no pop ups. the only CON is that it only lets you share music, but it rapes everyone else in that dept. it lets you preview the files better than kazaa, and doesn't infiltrate your computer with millions of programs. Music - Blubster, Software..., Kazaa.

Knowledge 08-01-2003 06:21 PM

I use eMule, well I'm trying to use it that is, and Kazaa

Flippy 08-01-2003 08:06 PM

IRC and FTPs are my filesharing protocols of choice :D
