They're going to be expensive no matter what. I'll look on eBay, but there's little way to tell if they're reliable. Your best bet is at www.apple.com/store, and it's expensive.

Well, you can at least look in the refurbished section on the Apple website. They are at least a little cheaper.

I've been in need of a new battery too (according to my istat nano, my 3 year old battery's gone through 354 cycles and is only at 21% health). I was recommended to <a href="http://www.newertech.com/products" target=_new>Newer Technology</a> by other forums, but the intelligentbatteries.com link looks to be an even better deal.
