DHCP Servers, NT, Linksys, DSL Linksys Router... HELP!
Hey guys.. I know I don't have that many posts but i'm trying to set something up at work and its going to be my ass if I don't set this up.. Just seeing if anyone here has any suggestions or pointers.. thanks.. on to the specs:
I have an 8 port HP Switch, with 5 users in the office connected to the server for email, file sharing etc... We just got Verizon DSL, and Linksys Broadband Router/8 port switch. I have to take out all of the connections to the HP switch, and plug them into the Linksys Router.. (I configured the router to work with the dsl, used one machine just hooked it up.. it was easy).. Basically, how do I get the server to still act as a server, and the users to still be able to access their inter-office email, scheduling, and files?? WHILE having the Linksys router manage it all / distribute DSL, instead of the HP switch just managing it? Overview: HP Switch NT Server 5 Users needs to turn into DSL Linksys Router NT Server 5 useres I looked up some info.. I think its just a matter of DHCP settings.. disabling the DHCP on the Linksys router and then setting it up as a gateway on the NT Server's DHCP settings? Does any of this sound familiar ? Thank you in advance guys/girls!!! |

Octane, basicly thats it.
First you will need to disable the DHCP server settings in the router. You will also need to assign a static IP and subnet to the lan side of your router. The IP should be in your scope and the subnet should be the same as your current network. Then plug it in and it should work. |

I would shut off DHCP on the router, plug the router into the HP switch and plug the users back into the HP switch, if your using DHCP on the server asign them the DNS and gateway options so when the power up they get those settings as well as thier IP addy. This will work as I run i that way at home and at work.

Disable the DHCP server on the router or Windows - personally, I use the router's DHCP server in the event the server is down.
Plug everything into the switch and make sure the gateway address is that of the router. What you're describing is pretty generic to most small LANs.
