M-audio Revolution
I am very interested in getting an M-audio Revolution sound card. I want to hear the good and bad of this card, the company and the software. Please also mention what OS your running. If you do not like it or you love it, do not forget to post why. Thanks.

If you play games i would pass on it. It offloads most of the work to the cpu.

I found the contrary. It works great on my system. It's got amazing sound quality.
It does utilize the processor a little bit more, but I think it was the difference of a couple frames a second. If you have a good machine, a couple FPS isn't going to be noticeable and the better sound quality will be. The only problem I have with mine is a slight latency on the line in and also a bug in the software that prevents line in from working unless the M-Audio mixer is open. |
The Envy 24 chipset which the Revolution has is a good one, but it does offload a lot of it's processing to the CPU.
24/192 does sound great coming from it, but the audigy 2 fixed the audigy's upsampling problem and is a better alternative for games. The verdict If you play games - Audigy 2 Listen to music - Revolution Also you can try that maya 7.1 card I believe is out for 59.99 at compusa. I believe that one uses the envy 24 chipset also. My experience with the revolution before I sent it back. Rear channel sucks for games. 3D API was inaccurate. Sound is extrelemy clear. Great for music. Biggest con about the Revolution...only digital Coax out. Thus why I bought a fortissimo 3. |
My biggest prob with the Rev is that it doesn't have MIDI.

Thanks for the input everyone. Its pretty much what I have read about in the reviews. Since Im not a gamer and do listen to music, I will be getting a Revolution.

It's a great card, some problems with cpu usage, but if you are using it in something like an htpc, it can't be beat
