Blown up comp..need advice
 

About 3 weeks ago I came home after work to see that my comp was not on, knowing that I left it on. So I press the power button a few times with the repeated response is it tries to start then shuts down, so out of my arrogance and stupidity I pull the power cord outa the surge bar and jam it into the wall. Then all hell breaks loose. An arch about 10 inches long is shooting out the outlet and I freak.

So I buy a new psu and everything works..For one day.
Since then I’ve bought a new mobo and I still have the same problem.
Where it tries to start but then shuts down.

Any Ideas before I throw this thing out the window.

Have you tried moving the computer (temporarily) to another room or outlet? If your outlets disperse 10 inch arcs of electricity when you plug in a device, the outlet itself has a problem. Try other outlets before you blame the computer, on this one.

Also; does your computer issue any beeps before it shuts down? Does anything display on the monitor?

all the outlet have been fixed

no beep as i don't even get to a bios start.

It's like im holding the power button down all the time..??

the old on/off thing..

I'd say try another power supply, the old motherboard may have killed the new power supply when you tried it. That or something plugged into the motherboard is fried, usually the bios will beep an error code but not always.

Inside your case, there are two-wire plugs that connect to the motherboard for the power button, power LED, reset button, and reset LD. Disconnect them all, noting their position and orientation (which side is the writing on).

Take a flathead screwdriver and touch the two terminals that the Power Button plug was just on.

If you've got a stuck power button on the case, you'll know.

I've fixed a few computers this way, and there's nothing dangerous (less than 5V on the PWR toggle pins).

i'm really not going to do that..this is a new mobo and all wires are hooked up right.

i undertstand the logic tho.

i was thinking of jumpering the PWR button.

So i finaly took a power switch out of another case i had hooked it up and all is good.
