you guys helped before.
i fugered i'd ask again.
so.........been droppin pics into my comp for a long time now......throwing songs onto the kids mp3 players for them........movin' my music from one comp to the other...... today........it (the damn computer) decides, that any removable unit i plug in has to be formatted......reading them as empty and in need of a format. wtf? i know for a fact that all the mp3 players and cameras are full....... my comp in the studio takes pics and moves songs no problem still....... just wondering, why all of a sudden it won't take these ones. you guys are good.......i'm sure one of you knows. thanks in advanced. |
*shrug* Try plugging it into another port on the computer.
|
tried all usb's.......and they give me the same answer.
|
fly, i've had this problem before, but i can't remember what i did to work around it. when is the last time you pulled an ms update (assuming you're running windows...). do other usb devices work? like a standard usb key? is there software that came with the devices that is "suggested" you use to manage the images / mp3s?
|
printers work.....mouse works.........and as for software.......my comp automatically noticed my camera the first time i plugged 'er in....as well as all mp3's and ipods........
never had to run a disc or anything. now they don't wanna fly....... i'm up to date as far as downloads go too......... *confused* thanks guys. |
When was the last update done? I know Microsoft released their latest round of patches Tuesday. Did this start happening shortly after then? Maybe a System Restore back to before those patches were installed may be a work-around.
Another question. When you disconnect the devices do you just pull the USB cable, or do you go to the Safely Remove Hardware icon, and disconnect it there, and then remove the cable after it is "Safe To Disconnect"? |
hmmmmmmmmm.......
system restore eh? will try that.........and i use the safe to disconnect allways. many thanks fellas. |
fly,
if you've still got the installation software for any of the devices, you might try reinstalling the drivers. if not, you can probably download them from the vendor's website. if something happened recently with your usb - devices, it might be worth your time. did you check your device manager to see if there's any warnings, conflicts, etc? i usually just juke with it for a while, pray, drink, whathaveyou....and it usually magically starts to work at some point. you could try contacting tech support for the vendor too...they might have something like that listed. |
just found my disc that came w/ the camera.........didn't really wanna use it.
i liked the fact that windows just picked up whatever removable i plugged in. oh well........off to try the drivers disc. ohhhh........and the damn comp wouldn't let me do a system restore either....wtf? almost time to get a new unit i guess. thanks guys, for all your suggestions. |
Have you tried plugging them into a different computer?
|
Quote:
yup.........my comp in my studio will still read any removable disc........camera,whatever. tried to install the disc that came w/ the camera..........it won't go either. guess i gotta take the hard drive to the shop. damn computers. |
You tried moving the mouse to the other USBs, I assume? I know that you said you tried the camera, etc.. in all of them, but did you try a known working device? My best guess is dying USB ports on motherboard, or PSU failing.
|
psu?
not sure what that is man. moved my mouse........everything is good.........all ports work with the mouse. this li'l problem is bending my head man. wish i could figure this out. thanks again guys this is what my device manager says....... i don't know how to fix them. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...g?t=1166301113 |
