Minor Problem
I have a unique problem here. My keyboard (Viewsonic via USB) does not work during the startup (choosing which Operating System to load, for instance). It then works for logging in and everything else.
However, at random points, the keyboard will not work unless it is unplugged and plugged right back in to the USB port. Last year I had the problem happen about once a day, then it stopped for a couple months, but now it is back. It is quite annoying but I can't think of any solution. WindowsXP Professional Intel P4 Processor

The startup mode issue sounds like legacy USB support is disabled in your BIOS.
If it's cutting out randomly while windows is booted then I'd suspect a cable, controller, or excess power draw. How many and what things are plugged in to the computer USB ports? (not counting powered hubs) Have you ever seen an alert to that effect? Do you have one of the little USB/PS2 adapters that usually ship with keyboards? Try the same keyboard plugged into the PS2 port and see if the problems change. Try another USB port. Best would be a separate USB card, if your system has one. Try another keyboard, at least temporarily. The startup mode issue sounds like legacy USB support is disabled in your BIOS. I have tried different USB ports, no success.
My mouse is also USB and has no problems. The only things that are plugged into USB ports on my computer are: Keyboard Mouse iPod connector (occasionally connected and no connection between plugging in the iPod and keyboard function)

I don't suspect you used your USB mouse during boot. Legacy USB support varies by motherboard. It's very important during boot or BIOS operation. Make sure it's enabled. It should be with other USB settings in the BIOS.
Windows USB support is completely different but if the problems didn't start at wildly different times I'd suspect they're related. Doesn't sound like you're drawing too much power. Anything on using another keyboard or one of those (usually green) ps2 adapters?

Well the problem has exasperated itself today and I have had to replug it in about 15 times today.
I don't think it is power draw because I only have a mouse plugged into USB as well. Is it a computer problem or a keyboard problem?
